I judge that extremely unlikely to the point of being totally implausible. My read on Pelosi's general character when it comes to Dem leadership and strategy is: Extremely overcautious, to an extent that is regularly harmful to Dem interests. Her overcautiousness has been a problem for years.

Against that background I find the idea that Pelosi intentionally decided to roll the dice and see what crazy things Trump would do if she wound him up by holding off on the impeachment articles, totally implausible. It would take someone with pretty much the exact opposite character and temperament to Pelosi to make that decision.

As a malignant narcissist Trump was constitutionally incapable of leaving his impeachment hanging over his head and had to do *something* to try to change the subject and gain adoration.
Unfortunately I was focused on your top sentence and missed the bolded. That makes absolutely no sense. Trump knows the polls and knows how unfavorable conflict with Iran is and how detrimental that would be to his reelection. Obviously, as from the sources you linked, his hand was forced, and I firmly believe Pelosi was involved. But to each his own.

Well I guess it's a good thing that the one in Yemen was the one that missed, rather than the one done in civilian airspace within an international airport full of civilians and civilian airlines in Baghdad.

The recent downing on a civilian airliner in Iran, apparently by errant missile, demonstrates the danger these kinds of action pose, and demonstrate why Trump's action in striking Soleimani at a civilian international airport was so horrifically dangerous and irresponsible.

Won't deny I'm disappointed that the evidence working its way through the courts won't be part of the trial but Pelosi has played this masterfully so I trust her judgement.

We gonna live blog this? I hope Mountain Man is up to the task ;).
I don't think it's going to be as easy as McConnell et.al hope it will be to sweep this under the rug now that new documents are being released under the freedom of information act as well as Judge Jacksons decision that supoenaed witnesses must testify. I believe that even if supoenaing those documents and testimony is rejected by Moscow Mitch and a majority republican vote in each case in the Senate trial, the House, and the American people can hear it at the same time the trial is going on. If the previously obstructed evidence is revealed, even if it's not heard in the trial itself, and is inculpatory, it's going to make it very difficult for Senate republicans to look the other way..

But the first blunder was Trump showing his impulsiveness and willingness to involve even the military to deal with his domestic issues. The second was blabbing to everyone about his corrupt intent! Everyone in Congress now knows how reckless he's willing to act for his own interest, as confirmed by the WSJ article. Should we consider additional charges of abuse of power if we can prove what is being reported? You're darn right we should.

This one of the most bizarre spins from the left that I've seen in awhile. Why would Trump seek to distract attention away from something that has helped him politically?
What makes you say he benefits politically from this? According to 538 more than 50% want him removed now.

Keep in mind he's been disagreeing with McConnell's idea of voting for a simple up or down vote on the impeachment and has been strenuously and repeatedly demanding a full trial in the Senate.
Trump doesn't know what he's talking about. Because of his ego and his malignant narcissism he will accept nothing short of "total exoneration."

If had been smart, IMO, he would turned a new leaf and shown himself to be the president to the whole country etc. Go on a charm offensive and give some minor wins to the Democrats. That creates a lot of space for McConnell to focus on getting rid of the trial as quietly as possible (if there is such a thing).

I don't think Pelosi was being overcautious at all, I think she held out as long as she felt she could in the hopes that more of the evidence would come out, as well as giving time for the American people to absorb the republicans attempt to put on a sham trial. The longer the debate over the matter the better the people get it. I'm sure she hoped that McConnell would establish the rules of the trial as well, but failing that, it was still worth the delay, in my opinion.

You're right, I stated things very poorly. I don't mean that she did it just to see if Trump would make a mistake despite the fact that that is what I said.

Wow. Imagine if the guy in the doctored photo gave your country an ultimatum, as opposed to the guy in first photo. Bearded Trump would scare me more.

It's not Breitbart, so it's not totally made up out of their imagination. WSJ is a Murdoch owned Trump ally, so they're unlikely to print something critical of Trump unless it's true.

As I recall, he publicly released the Ukraine call transcripts unless you're talking about something else, and I was speaking about actual policy.

Strangely, bald, bearded Trump is the mirror image of a good friend of mine. In fact, my first reaction was "Why is there a picture of Mike in this thread?"
