And Fields is only guilty of not waiting until he could justifiably defend himself.
That is a repugnant view. The crowd on the street posed no danger, was not violent when the car barreled down the street. The Christians who camped at the local church were not violent, posed no threat. From what I read, they were wiling to give water to any who entered, though it is unlikely any of the protesters entered, only counter protesters.
It seems your description does not posit that all gun owners are inherently peaceful, just responsible gun owners are peaceful.
Which are the responsible gun owners? Responsibility alone was not enough for cow poke when it comes to guns n the church. Significant amounts of training was given as examples.
In the church surrounding us, or on the street among strangers, who do we want to bear arms, potentially lethal weapons? An armed Antifa? Armed neo confederates?
Maybe a responsible klansman, as long as he is "responsible"?

Media Offers Thoughts And Prayers That Someone Would Start Some Violence At Gun Rights Rally
U.S.—Somber members of the press offered their thoughts and prayers that someone would start some violence at the gun rights rally in Virginia today.
Reporters expressed their grief and condolences as the violence they hyped has so far failed to materialize.
"Nobody has so much as fired a shot. This is an unbelievable tragedy," said one teary-eyed MSNBC reporter, clearly caught up in the anguish of the moment. "It's tragic that we live in a country where reporters who are just minding their own business trying to push a narrative can have everything ripped away from them in an instant when protesters refuse to shoot at people."
A CBS News reporter called for a moment of silence live on the air. "Let's all take a minute and cry out to a non-specific deity of our choice that any second now, a miraculous shooting would occur." When it did not occur, she began weeping and gnashing her teeth before ripping her suit jacket in despair. "WHY, GOD, WHY!?!"
One CNN reporter has offered up to $1,000 for anyone who will start some violence to help out the narrative.

Many churches sent people to oppose fascism. They stated that was their purpose. There was no spot for Antifa, just protesters and counter protesters.
You noted that gun owners are not a monolithic group. But you present Antifa as monolithic.

Now if you want to group some gun owners similarly, you could talk about NRA members, for instance.

Because Antifa is something you join and are a member of. They all wear black and most wear masks. They have a freaking uniform!

Remember 2017? It was not that long ago. Your distinctions on Antifa and non-Antifa was largely absent among conservative commentators which did not recognize fine distinctions. Trump's "fine people" comment launched a war of words in which defenders did not acknowledge any distinctions among counter protesters.
Many of the counter protesters did see themselves as natural allies with the Antifa, who were willing to make a stand against fascists, while rejecting the anarchist and violent means employed.
There were two groups, protesters and counterprotesters. And churches proudly sent their members to stand against fascists.
One group which left almost no record were the protesters who melted away when it became apparent that the rally was a front for fascism, organized by fascists, and a promotion of fascism. https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/...harlottesville
Yes it is from splc. But the rally banner used to promote the rally was in the news in the lead up to the rally, and parallels the name chosen for the rally, Unite the Right. Disparate groups united in a common cause.

..and local chapters that people join. People claim to be "members" of Antifa.
And they are not anti-fascists. They ARE fascists. If your political views don't align with theirs, they want to shut you up. With rocks and beat downs.
