Yeah, the fact that he didn't shake Pence's hand kinda negates the criticism --- if he had shaken Pence's hand, and not Nancy, then I'd be in agreement that he snubbed her. I honestly don't think, in watching the video, that he even saw her "extended hand".

His wife didn't look terribly happy to be there. But she did a great job with the Medal of Freedom thing.

There is some suspicion that she deliberately timed it just as he was turning his attention away in order to create the impression that she had been snubbed.

I'd think it more likely that she was doing it as a calculated move HOPING he would see it and ignore it so she could make a big deal of it. And I wonder how far in advance she plotted to tear up the little stacks of papers comprising the speech, since it's now known that she "pre-tore" them in preparation.

I've also read that she ripped up the speech a few pages at a time to ensure that at least one of the rips was captured on camera. And then afterwards on the floor, she was laughing and waving the torn pages as if to signal to other Democrats, "Look, I really did it!" So my guess is that it was planned before the speech, and others were in on it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tore up a copy of President Donald Trump’s speech at the conclusion of his State of the Union address on Tuesday night.

The event was marked by concurrent spectacles. Trump’s speech, a typical cocktail of hardline immigration invective and boasts about the economy, also featured the president awarding a schoolgirl with a scholarship, presenting Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and reuniting a military family.

She was ripping up a tissue of falsehoods. She was ripping up extremely partisan ballyhoo like awarding Rush Limbaugh the Medal of Freedom Award at the SOTU address. I don't wish cancer on anyone, but he has been an extremely partisan, divisive figure, and far worse, for nearly thirty years. It would have been like Obama awarding the Medal to Michael Moore during the SOTU address. Conservatives' heads would have exploded!

I guess the reason you didn’t dispute my assessment of the State of the Union, namely that it was a blatant campaign speech punctuated by sentimental ‘reality TV’ moments such as the scholarship for Philly girl, was because you agreed with me.

Considering that that education is largely the purview of state and local governments there really is not a whole lot that she can do whether for the good or bad.

Considering that DeVoss wants to cut billions of dollars from public education there is a fair bit she could do if she wasn’t so focused on non-public education.
