I prefer not to make exceptions by labels---therefore, groups or individuals of all labels---Americans, Afghans, Chinese...etc---are "ignorant and tribalistic" when they disrespect the rights of others and ignore the laws and rules that constrain/restrain excesses in human conduct. The use of violence for unjust political ends is equally bad whatever label it is done under. The abuse of rules and laws for injustice and oppression is also bad.

exceptionalism---an idea that a certain group/affiliation based on religion, nationality, race, gender,...etc, is entitled to more rights than others or that they are exempt from the laws and rules that govern others, leads to inequality and injustice. That is why Islamic ethico-moral principles are tied to Tawheed (Unity) the idea of "One God". In order for justice to flourish, it needs to be based on a concept of equality of all. Tawheed provides this in the form of an idea that God is One and is the Creator of all creation which is equally inferior to God. Thus all humanity is equal (in status) to one another, none superior or inferior. This also means that all human beings, as God's creations, are equally entitled to rights and also have responsibilities. An Afghan has just as much right to the pursuit of happiness, liberty, justice...etc... as an American or Indonesian.....or....
