If .10% of that age group needed hospitalization, our hospitals will be overrun, increasing the fatality rate exponentially more. And most sources admit 20% of those infected require hospitalization. Little is known about this disease. We have the first case within a nursing facility, a nursing home in Washington. News reports I read did not mention how many beds or patients involved.
We expect government to be impeccable when handling cases such as this. But the little is known about the disease, the testing kits were not made with complete perfection (yes, the testing kits did not work perfectly the first time, how many software packages work perfectly?) It wasn't due to incompetence, scientist worked at breakneck speed to create a test kit for a bug which was unknown a month ago.
We have been treated to stories of cover ups, untrained health care workers sent out without protective gear. But health care workers are trained in infectious diseases, and we have the responses of workers sent out, claiming that they did use proper precautions and gear.
This is one of those times when I do hope that politicians listen to professionals. A pandemic will swamp our health care system, already we have run out of basic supplies like masks. But is there one proper course of action on this, a course which is recognizeable to health care professionals?
The arguments on this seem to suggest that the amatuers behind a computer know the appropriate course of action! Not sure how many health care professionals know the right things to do. Would Americans stand for shutting down cities as China did? That is the only safe course of action

Even CNN's Jake Tapper pushes back against false claims that the Trump administration has called the cornavirus a hoax.
