Yes - being "drummed out of the party" does not have to mean "physically expelled." It can take the form of the party making things so unpleasant that one chooses to leave rather than continue to expose themselves to the unpleasantness. That is still being "drummed out of the party," IMO.

FWIW, I'm not particularly a "big tent" kinda guy. I'd never vote for a Pro-Choice anything, and would generally not vote for a non-RWNJ, so for me, they might as well not be in the party.
I prefer a group in which multiple points of view are expressed and argued for. When a group becomes monolithic in its thinking, history shows that it becomes entrenched and more resistant to new ideas and alternate strategies.

This is natural, for a conservative, since the very nature of conservatism is to resist change. It is the opposite of liberalism, which is constantly looking for new and better ways to accomplish things and new and better ways to function as a society.

We disagree - which is not a surprise.

There are two ways to make water boil: turn up the heat under the water, or lower the pressure in the environment occupied by the water. The result is the same either way.
There are two ways to "drum someone out," engage in a formal process to expel them, or make the environment unpleasant enough to cause them to "self-expel." The result is the same either way.

If you disagree, then (to be consistent) you also have to adopt the position that there is nothing amiss about Democrats "turning up the heat" on members of the party who are not following the "party line."

I could have sworn I made that error, caught it, and fixed it - but apparently I didn't get to that last step.

Because I like you so much, I'll allow you the privilege of being incredibly wrong.

Words have meaning, my friend. If you say "I got drummed out of the party", it clearly shows that somebody INTENDED to push you out. Not that they just were so "uncomfortable to be around" that you left of your own free will, grumbling and complaining.

Actually Republican members of congress who did not tow the line were threatened by Trump and others of the party working against them for reelection.

Yeah - and when you "turn up the heat" under someone who is not "aligning" with the party - that's pretty much what you're doing.
