  • ABC poll: 55% approve of Trump's handling of the coronavirus crisi

As a deepening public health crisis rocks the nation, a new ABC News/Ipsos poll released Friday shows a far different portrait of a country than from only one week ago, as nearly three in four Americans now say their lives have been upended in some way by the novel coronavirus and President Donald Trump's approval for his handling of the outbreak is on the rise.

In the new poll, 55% of Americans approve of the president's management of the crisis, compared to 43% who disapprove. Trump’s approval on this issue is up from last week, when the numbers were nearly reversed. Only 43% approved of Trump's handling of the pandemic and 54% disapproved in last week's poll.

Over the course of a week, the president has shifted his approach and tone, giving daily briefings on the crisis since Saturday, alongside the White House task force leading the response to the coronavirus and announcing some severe measures to combat the virus. He's also taken on a more somber tone, saying of his own tenor "people actually liked it" as the reality of the scale of the virus set in.

What retards. Are they completely indoctrinated from watching Fox, or is that proportion of the US just that demented?

Or maybe they can see beyond the Young Turks bubble you are so firmly ensconced in. Or maybe they realize what is important isn't political correctness but what is actually being done.

It was apparently important to the administration that statements were politically correct rather than medically correct.

Meanwhile Trump in interviews and on twitter has been making all sorts of false statements.

        what is actually being done.
Doctor who helped defeat smallpox says "this is the most irresponsible act of an elected official that I've ever witnessed in my lifetime" of Trump's handling of coronavirus.

What Trump's done is lied, called it a hoax, lied some more.

Here's a timeline of some of Trump's statements:

Jan 22: "We have it totally under control... It’s going to be just fine.”

Feb 6: "We’re going to be pretty soon at only five people... And we could be at just one or two people over the next short period of time."

Feb 27: "It’s going to disappear... One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear."

Feb 28: It's "their [the Democrat's] new hoax".

Feb 29: "everything is under control... Everything is really under control.

March 4: Trump calls the WHO’s estimate of the global death rate "false." He describes the coronavirus as "very mild". He suggests that those infected can get better "going to work."

March 7: "I’m not concerned at all". Trump goes on to explain that he would prefer the sick people stay on the cruise ship rather than disembark purely because that would keep the stats low regarding number of cases in the US rather than for any medical reason... "I like the numbers being where they are. I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault".

March 9: Trump reiterates his mistaken view that the common flu is more deadly than COVID19.

March 10: Trump lies about the availability of tests kits, saying tests are available for anyone who wants one (they weren't).

March 16: "The virus is not under control - it’s not under control anywhere!"
March 16: "We have a problem that a month ago nobody ever thought about.”
March 16: Trump lies about there being "precise Medical Screenings at airports" (there weren't).
March 16: "I would rate it [my performance on dealing with the pandemic] a 10 [out of 10]."

March 17: Trump explains he Totally Knew All Along that it was going to be bad: "I’ve always known this is a real — this is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic. I’ve always viewed it as very serious."

March 19: "No one has ever seen numbers like this, no one would be ready for this."

In a 3 week period he went from it's a "hoax" and "under control" to "it's not under control anywhere" and "I've always known this is a real... pandemic".

Pence heads the Chicom coronavirus task force so it is hardly strange that it is going through him.

Nor is it strange that someone like you continues to disseminate the demonstrable lie that Trump called the Chicom coronavirus a hoax even after multiple fact checkers have exposed it.

Nor is it strange that you ignore everything else in his post that kinda destroys any credibility you or your leader have in calling the response anything but the disasters it is, and, will be - this is far from over.

Those were the two things that sort of jumped out as pig ignorant although much of the other stuff wasn't a whole lot better.

So do you think it's okay to disseminate falsehoods to continue a mindless jihad against Trump? Why not stick to the facts? Not everything he's done has been right -- just like every other leader. His early attempt to staunch the panic was amateurish and ill-advised although understandable (panic only makes things worse but telling people not to panic never works) but the TDS crowd feels the need to spin that all out of any recognizable reality. 55% of the country understands this in spite of the MSM's 24/7 attempts to convince us otherwise.

The issues go much father back than just his most recent fumble: https://forensicnews.net/2020/03/10/...in-the-making/ is a long list of behind the scenes actions that resulted in the gutting of mechanisms both at a federal and international level to deal with a crises of this magnitude.

Moral of the story is that governments need to have strong institutions, both at a federal and international level, to deal with these kinds of crises. Cutting such programmes, because of some retard extremist ideology, not good. Incompetence too, played its part.

He said that his handling of the crises wasn't bad, and that the Democrats were making it out as if it was - that was a "hoax". His handling of the crises was bad, they were right about that. He didn't have it under control, he wasn't preparing for it to spiral out of control. He hoped it would go away - it didn't.

I'm no fan of the Democrats either, fyi. Their economic programme - super charged by Trump - is a debt fueled house of cards.

Corporate irresponsibility is running rife, most of these companies are up to their eyeballs in debt, lack emergency funding and have few leavers to get them out of trouble. The effect is that without corporate welfare they would collapse and destroy the US economy and lives of billions of people. Corporate greed at its best. Personally I think it should be game over for most of these companies, and even the US, if it wasn't for the lives of their workers. It's a form of blackmail in my opinion.

I think the entire government (republicans and democrats) are doing a good job so far. I think they are finally starting to put away party politics and focusing on working together. They could do a lot better, but they are on the right path.

This is 4 months in and hospitals don't even have PPE, masks or protective gowns, not to mention testing kits, which are of vital necessity for healthcare workers who are putting themselves at risk when treating the hundreds of patients they are treating. This is the U.S. of America and we can't even get masks and gowns to hospitals and still short on testing kits. Hospitals are actually requesting that citizens make masks at home with online guides on how to make them. Exactly how is this the federal government doing a good job. If the healthcare workers themselves get sick, which has already been happening, then what? Talk is cheap.

Clear and unconflicting instructions are important in a time of crisis, of possible panic.

Which means that any US version of Li Wenliang on the task force who goes outside the normal channels and causes alarm will be in very hot water too.

So medical professionals regularly having to inform the public Trump is wrong after Trump makes medically false statements, is bad? Agreed.

                              Pity Trump keeps doing it.
