You might say that English isn't necessarily the most common language in them, even if it's their national language, but we're not talking about "on the street" communications, but the communications you would have access to from outside the country, i.e. the Internet. For example, even though Hasua is the most spoken language in Nigeria, all of the biggest Nigerian websites are in English.
Language plays a part, and is probably why the UK gets more attention than other European countries in the US, but I think it only plays a small role. It's not a matter of language, but a matter of influence. The US is practically in a league of its own when it comes to sheer international influence. The only country that can rival the US in that area is China... but they're also a dictatorship so there's not really much in the way of "politics" to follow (their policies matter, but not so much their politics). I think if they were actually democratic and therefore had politics to pay attention to, you'd see a lot of attention paid to their politics from outside.

Are you simply unaware of the amount of American TV and movies the rest of the world typically watches on a daily or yearly basis? Not to mention, the US is a relatively common destination for English-speakers to visit or have friends live (I have both). Just because you know nothing about a society of another country, doesn't mean they don't know plenty about American society.

You really think TV and movies represent daily American life?Last edited by Sparko; 03-28-2020, 08:18 AM."The man from the yacht thought he was the first to find England; I thought I was the first to find Europe. has by far the most backwardly conservative political policies
and is the only one of them who insanely invades other countries regularly

It amuses me that you speak out of one side of your mouth about how conceited Americans are about their importance and nobody cares and out of the other you tell us you study our government and society and know "more than a native"

The fact that star gets his information about America from TV shows and movies explains a whole lot.
It'd be equivalent to thinking one is an expert on Japanese culture because they watch a bunch of animes.
[*You mean every Junior High in Japan doesn't have a couple kids with superpowers?*]

I'm still wondering how Japan keeps rebuilding Tokyo in time to be leveled by yet another of the legion of gargantuan monsters that apparently infest the islands and surrounding area
