Why are people in America concerned about the actions of another sovereign country?

Answer:Because the actions of one country can and does affect other countries.

Example: SARS-CoV-2, the bug which is causing the current epidemic. It started in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

-Chinese authorities feared stirring up panic, and clamped down on the distribution of information, insisting that information pass through the central government. Several doctors were chastened for spreading panic. Later citizens insist "we owe Dr. Wenliang an apology", a popular rejection of the political over the medical view.

-American authorities feared stirring up panic, and tried to steer the narrative in the disease, insisting that information pass through the central government. And Dr Fauci has no longer appears with the president. Now Americans are asking Where's Dr. Fauci (and commenting on Dr Brix wardrobeand grandmotherly comport).

-And China is now exporting medical supplies to Italy and other places, cementing ties in Asia and Africa.

-US is squabbling over the disposition of the scant supply of ventilators.

That's become the standard ploy for Trump supporters to brush off legitimate concerns about his policies. The fact is the US has enormous impact upon the rest of the free world and it behooves the rest of us to take an interest. And when it comes to the pandemic "U.S. intelligence agencies were issuing ominous, classified warnings in January and February about the global danger posed by the coronavirus while President Trump and lawmakers played down the threat and failed to take action that might have slowed the spread of the pathogen, according to U.S. officials familiar with spy agency reporting". And yet various foreigners have been obsessing about the USA here on TWEB for at least the last 10 years. I don't obsess about who the leaders of Australia are, or what policies they make. Heck I don't even know who they are and I don't care. I don't start dozens of threads about Boris Johnson in the UK or think it is my place to tell UK citizens what they should be doing about him, or about what he has said today or how he is handling the coronavirus. Or what taxes he is promoting or relieving. etc. etc. etc.

All this proves is that the United States of America is the most important country in the world.

And what is wrong with that? Quite a few Americans obsess over thing like fascism and communism within other countries, whether other countries take in Muslim refugees, etc.

And many are obsessing about how the Chinese government decided to handle the coronavirus information, an internal matter of a sovereign nation.

Those are specific and limited topics, this obsession with the USA is regarding every decision of our government leaders and has been going on for over a decade.

English-only speakers are largely limited to following politics in English-speaking nations. That gives us 6 or so options. Of those, the US is the largest, most dysfunctional by far, most hilariously idiotic, has the most ridiculous leaders who give the best value comedy unintentionally, has by far the most backwardly conservative political policies, and is the only one of them who insanely invades other countries regularly.

So it isn't a hard choice.

Although Boris the Johnson is stupid and awful enough to make Britain interesting to watch with popcorn at the moment, and Tony Abbott in Australia was the same for a while.

Basically this. And yes, our prime minister and brexit is pretty much as embarrassing as the state of US politics under Trump is at the moment.

Trump is getting some of the highest approval ratings ever right now in spite of a 24/7 barrage of attacks in the MSM. Sure you could try to claim it's a rally around the leader thing but if we don't think you are handling the situation competently then that just does not happen.

                          Ask Herbert Hoover.

I'm always still in trouble again

Actually, we can surpass 6 English-speaking countries in Africa alone. You might say that English isn't necessarily the most common language in them, even if it's their national language, but we're not talking about "on the street" communications, but the communications you would have access to from outside the country, i.e. the Internet. For example, even though Hasua is the most spoken language in Nigeria, all of the biggest Nigerian websites are in English.

Language plays a part, and is probably why the UK gets more attention than other European countries in the US, but I think it only plays a small role. It's not a matter of language, but a matter of influence. The US is practically in a league of its own when it comes to sheer international influence. The only country that can rival the US in that area is China... but they're also a dictatorship so there's not really much in the way of "politics" to follow (their policies matter, but not so much their politics). I think if they were actually democratic and therefore had politics to pay attention to, you'd see a lot of attention paid to their politics from outside.

Wow, for claiming that Americans don’t know the world outside America, you don’t seem to know much yourself. English is the international language of business and most foreign news agencies usually have an English edition. I’ve read several English editions of local papers in Europe and Asia. They really were not too difficult to track down either.

Not only are you obsessed with the USA, you all also think you are experts in our government and society! That's what's really hilarious.
