The Pharma-sponsored media absolutely does not want a simple pre-existing medicine, CHLOROQUINE, to prevent deaths and improve the country and improve Trump's image.

The good results of Chloroquine must not be admitted by MSNBC or CNN.

Recently on CNN I saw Dr. Sanjay Gupta, their go to medical expert, saying that Chloroquine shows promise as a treatment but needs more testing -- a position virtually every doctor has taken.

I'm always still in trouble again

Doctors are allowed to use medicines for purposes other than the originally approved purposes. It is sort of better to use a medicine than has already worked for COVID-19 patients than to just let them die. There are not going to be trials of this medicine before this season passes.

It's not 'simple'... it's a dangerous medication with serious side effects, sometimes lethal ones, extremely easy to lethally overdose on, and not appropriate for anyone with many of the same types of pre-existing conditions that make people at high-risk for COVID.

The scientific findings so far on its usefulness in treating COVID are mixed. At best you could say it's probably mildly beneficial for people who's COVID infections have developed to the point of being possibly lethal, to be given it by doctors in a controlled setting in controlled amounts, so long as those patients don't have any of the underlying conditions that this medication reacts dangerously with.

It is clear from the research on it, that it is not a magic pill that cures COVID for anyone and everyone.

I say this as someone who is a scientist, and someone who is very anti big-pharma and who thinks all pharmaceutical companies should be nationalised and purely government funded and their medicines made available free of charge to all once discovered. (Fun fact: The amount of $$ private pharmaceutical companies actually spend on R&D of new drugs, as opposed to marketing, executive salaries, shareholder profit etc, is way below 1% of Western Government's budgets, those governments could easily fund all global pharma research if they felt like it - instead of subsidizing private pharma companies to do that research and then paying them huge $$$ to buy the end product drugs off them which all goes to the private shareholders in profit and rich CEOs.) But there's no 'big pharma' conspiracy in this instance - this drug is known to doctors around the world and plenty have tried it on COVID patients, and it hasn't shown itself to be any kind of miracle cure.

Here's an article on Didier Raoult and chloroquine
    https://www.connexionfrance.com/Fren...-trial-results

French researcher posts successful Covid-19 drug trial

A renowned research professor in France has reported successful results from a new treatment for Covid-19, with early tests suggesting it can stop the virus from being contagious in just six days.

Professor Didier Raoult from infection hospital l'Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire (IHU) Méditerranée Infection in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), published a video explaining the trials on Monday March 16.

Professor Raoult is an infectious diseases specialist and head of the IHU Méditerranée Infection, who has been tasked by - and consulted by - the French government to research possible treatments of Covid-19.

He said that the first Covid-19 patients he had treated with the drug chloroquine had seen a rapid and effective speeding up of their healing process, and a sharp decrease in the amount of time they remained contagious.

Chloroquine - which is normally used mainly to prevent and treat malaria - was administered via the named drug, Plaquenil.

The treatment was offered to 24 patients, who were among the first to become infected in the south east of France, and who had voluntarily admitted themselves to hospital for the process.

Patients were given 600mcg per day for 10 days. They were closely monitored, as the drug can interact with other medication, and cause severe side effects in some cases.

Professor Raoult said: “We included everyone who was in agreement [to be treated], which was almost everyone. Two towns in the protocol, Nice and Avignon, gave us [infected] patients who had not yet received treatment.

“We were able to ascertain that patients who had not received Plaquenil (the drug containing hydroxychloroquine) were still contagious after six days, but of those that had received Plaquenil, after six days, only 25% were still contagious.”

Chloroquine phosphate and hydroxychloroquine have previously been used to treat coronavirus patients in China, in ongoing Covid-19 clinical trials.

The lesser problem with the French study was that the control and treatment group weren't randomized - they were at different geographical locations.

The greater problem with the French study is that 3 or 4 patients in the treatment group got seriously worse and had to be transferred to the ICU (one died!), and were, bizarrely, omitted from their published statistics about their treatment group as a result! When people die on your miracle cure, it isn't a miracle cure, and not reporting it properly is negligent.

This is a real time case study on how people react to, are influenced by, and learn from science news. The examples of evolution, and global warming are different, they have been around a while, many grew up with the controversies (geocentrism is rather new). But in all the examples, political ideologies play a role.

One the one hand, this novel virus is the "Chinavirus" linked to wet markets with a specific origin in time. Yet people are speculating that they have had this virus before Wuhan! (another thread here). Naive science views are extremely difficult to overcome.
