American credibility in the Trump era

In 2005, after the SARS outbreak, the international rules on dealing with epidemics, we signed the IHR-2005. Governments had an economic and political incentive with hold information on an epidemic, the regulations were designed to stop that, and we signed on to it.

We did close off air travel with China. But we also closed off air travel to Taiwan. We did not target areas that had the disease.

Maybe Trump listened to his trusted adviser trade Ron Vara, a real expert. But will the world accept America's leadership going forward?

We did close off air travel with China.
    Specifically one province at first

But we also closed off air travel to Taiwan.
Who told you that? Taiwan closed off their own air travel, not us.

No. Dr. Fauci already told us who Trump listened to.

But will the world accept America's leadership going forward?
Of course they will. They still do. Why do you think we are the only nation getting international flak for how we handled the epidemic when other nations did both far more and far less? Because we are the global leaders and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

I think the US under republican leadership will struggle to lead the world going forward. It feels like the western world and US democrats are, for the most part, progressing down the same path while the US republicans are going somewhere else. They will remain influential due to their power but the further the distance the harder it will be to connect.

Now that the UK has left EU they will hope to form a new group with Australia, Canada and NZ called SBFNZ which stands for ‘Super best friends and New Zealand’.

The US will continue to lead no matter who is in the chair.

    Lead in what respect?

We are in the middle of a global crisis and no one is looking to the US for guidance.

What world are you living in? EVERYONE is looking to the US for guidance. Who do you think they are looking to? Jacinda Arden? Justin Trudeau? Xi Jinping?

Umm obviously not in your censored world. Everyone is looking at the US because it is the worst affected nation in the world. No one is looking to the US and thinking ‘wow I hope our country can get like that! We should call Trump and ask him for guidance!’.

Based on per capita infections/deaths, we're actually doing quite well, all things considered.

I hope it stays that way. I doubt it will though.
