Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

Now that the LGBTQ+ movement has essentially won and is simply mopping up the last resistence, I've been wondering what movement is coming next.

According to this article, https://www.realclearinvestigations....on_122979.html, it is going to be Polyamory and they will be using the same playbook that LGBTQ+ used. Given how society has changed in the last 30 years, I'm presuming the movement will be successful.

Here's what I think the impact will be:
    • Many churches will become more "spiritual and not religious" and become even more Christian-in-name only.
    • It will become harder to find churches or believers who hold to traditional marriage.
    • Churches that want to stay faithful to the Bible will have to accept they'll have smaller membership.
    • Christians will be more ostracized in public especially the media.
    • The government will start taking over the role of Christianity (and other religions in society) and provide some form of spiritual services.

Is it time for Christians (especially on the conservative end) to:
    • Concede they will be a minority in the new America
    • If they believe America was founded as a Christian nation, say it's time to concede America is no longer a Christian nation
    • Start planning for some form of persecution and smaller membership rolls

    What do you think?

Well if it does become legal, I predict that the Mormon church will get a new revelation saying God approves of polygamy once again.

Yuuuup. Also what's left off the mainstream Presbyterian, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, etc. will discover that God really approved of it after all, they'll have clergy participating, services to bless it, and they'll repent of their opposition to it.

I agree. I think their recent relaxing of rules regarding homosexuals is calculated to put them in better footing to demand that polygamy be made legal. Otherwise they'd be shut down as hypocrites who demand their own peculiar view of marriage be made legal without extending the same courtesy to others. I think that if polygamy is made legal in the near future, it will be in large part due to the efforts of Mormons.

The one thing that makes me wonder... The Bible *does* say that some of David's extra wives were gifts from God. So that makes me hesitant to outright say that polygamy is evil.

I agree. While I think it's a shaky case, one can make a Biblical case that polyarmoy is acceptable maybe. I remember reading about Christian Polygamy (not necessarily Mormon, either) groups about 20 years ago.
