To me, the biggest problem is that he supposedly had all this 'information' at the time of the impeachment hearings, according to Aunt Nancy, and he withheld it until there was an opportunity to profit from a tell-all book.
That doesn't look good. And, yeah, I used to think, at times, he was the "adult in the room", though I thought he was too much of a war hawk.
