  • Trump only hires the best people, or so he claims

Trump only hires the "best people", or so he claims. Let's take a look at what Trump has said about some of his hires:

John Bolton, National Security Advisor - "disgruntled, boring fool, who only wanted to go to war"

James Mattis, Secretary of Defense - "world's most overrated general"

John Kelly, Chief of Staff - "was way over his head" and "went out with a whimper"

Rex Tillerson, Secretary of State - "dumb as a rock" and "lazy as hell"

Jeff Sessions, Attorney General - "mentally retarded" and "a dumb Southerner"

Michael Cohen, personal lawyer - "not a very smart person" and "a bad lawyer"

Steve Bannon, chief strategist - "cried when he was fired and begged for his job"

Omarosa Manigault Newman, political aid - "lowlife" and "not smart"

Jerome Powell, Chair of the Federal Reserve - "clueless" and "letting us down"

Anthony Scaramucci, communications secretary - "totally incapable" and "a highly unstable nut job"

    and so on.

The evidence would indicate that Trump is not as good a judge of character as he thinks.

I wouldn't want to work for Trump. He got his reality TV fame for firing people.

Do you remember when he hired [amongst others] a long-haul truck driver, a country club cabana attendant and the owner of a scented-candle company for jobs at the Agriculture Department's headquarters?

He puts me in mind of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus aka Elagabalus, although I do not think Trump has yet given his hairdresser a senior position!

If I was to venture a guess ...

Trump sometimes will listen to a person. If he likes what he hears (coincides with his own worldview) he thinks the person is a mirror image of himself, or the person is a genius, or is a lackey. So he hires them.

Then he comes to find out that the person is not a mirror image, is not a genius, and has their own ideas about how to perform their job. Then they're fired.

The data shows that no matter how many he's hired, he's a bad judge of character (if we assume his claims about the quality of these people is accurate.

Haven't you hired people who looked good for the job only to find out later than they weren't and then had to fire them? I have.

Why are you, a Canadian, so interested in President Trump.

How about concentrating on the missteps of Trudeau and complain about them on TWEB?

Yeah we are talking about politicians here. I don't think any of them have a good track record when you look into them.

What is hilarious is to watch how the 'best people in the world' turn into scoundrels and scum once they actually take a stand on a principle Trump wants to violate or a law he wants to break.

                            I don't think that's a fair characterization of the thread's subject.

Obviously, someone who says they only hire the best and brightest can be assumed to be bragging or exaggerating to some degree. If we look to the employee retention / firing rate of the Trump administration though, it's easy to see that he's fundamentally incompetent at hiring qualified people.

This assumes we take him at his word, of course, and that the people he fired were fired for good reason. If we don't take him at his word (and really, only stupid people would), then it becomes easy to see that he should never be in charge of hiring or firing people. Not even for his own businesses. Anyone who thought otherwise would have been conned by him.

                              WaPo strikes again:

At an event Thursday at the White House, as reporters were escorted out of the room, one correspondent yelled to the president: “Why do you keep hiring people that you believe are wackos and liars?” — the names he’s called Bolton.

Trump sat stone faced and ignored the question.
