But they also want the money that flows from here to the other provinces in transfer payments. Alberta has sent untold billions of dollars to Ottawa over decades, and they aren't going to get that money if the oil industry suffers much more than it already has.

Americans CAN pass through to Alaska, that's allowed by the covid rules of the country, but these nice folk are blatantly lying so they can come to the mountains.
