Individuals attempt to "brand" themselves all of the time with varying levels of success. Some are businessmenpersons but many more are just folks trying to act cool.

The point being, the latter disproves your assertion.

Right... the brand is the PRODUCT, it's not the BUSINESS, and a failed brand or product does not necessarily mean a failed business, especially if the business sells multiple brands/products.

Way to "own goal" yourself, kiddo.

        Sure you have.

A brand is the product of a business. Sorry.

I apologize if this basic fact offends you, but... wait, no I don't apologize. Your ignorance isn't my fault in the least.
A business can have more than one product. A product failing doesn't mean the business failed. In this case the business is Trump's branding business (he didn't raise the cows or butcher the meat, and aside from selling the steaks in his hotels/restaurants, which he is still doing, he didn't own the store they were sold in either), and his branding business is alive and well.

        • The old phrase --- "put your money where your mouth is" says a lot.

One of the main reasons the investors on Shark Tank decline to partner with an applicant is "you have a brand - you don't have a company".

Well...no...not exactly. If a business has only one brand - then yes - the brand and the business are essentially equivalent. But many (most?) businesses have multiple brands because hitching your wagon to a single brand is the ultimate in a lack of diversification and exposes the business to significant risk.

That being said, I don't know how Trump structured these various ventures - whether they were as separate businesses or as a single entity with multiple brands. His tendency to spawn businesses like rabbits spawn offspring suggests it was probably a brand per business. I suspect his "many businesses" model was largely due to tax issues. Multiple smaller businesses can take advantage of tax loopholes not available to larger businesses. The same is true of real estate businesses.

Selling products under the Trump name is one of Trump's ventures. That's what he was doing in this case. Bought beef, rebranded it as "Trump Steaks" then sold them (and afaik still sells them) in his restaurants/hotels and also used to sell them in some store that stopped selling them because they were too expensive (hence them ending up on a "failed" business list).

Anyway, counting failed businesses is a bad way to count whether someone is a good businessman and counting failed brands is even worse. As I said earlier I know guys with 1-2 dozen failed brands who run successful businesses and are multi-millionaires. It would be absurd to call them "failed businessmen". Failure is a normal part of business and life.

No, because Kente cloth has no relationship to slavery.

Kente cloth has its origin from the Akan-Ashanti kingdoms in Ghana. The origin of kente is in the Akan empire of Bonoman. Most Akans migrated out of the area that was Bonoman to create various states. The Ewe people of Ghana claim that they originated kente weaving (they don't claim inventing the art of weaving).

In fact the wearing of Kente cloth supports the native cloth making industry.

The ashantis waged wars on neighboring states in their geographic area to capture people and sell them as slaves to Europeans (Portuguese) who subsequently sold the enslaved people along with guns to the Ashantis in exchange for Akan gold. Akan gold was also used to purchase slaves from further up north via the Trans-Saharan route. The Ashantis purchased slaves to help clear the dense forests within Ashanti. About a third of the population of many Akan states were indentured servants (i.e. Non-Akan peoples). The Ashantis went from buyers of slaves to selling slaves as the dynamics in the Gold Coast and the New World changed. Thus, the Ashanti people played a role in supplying Europeans with indentured servants, who were later enslaved for the trans-Atlantic slave trade. In 2006 Ghana apologized to the descendants of slaves for the role the Ashantis had played in the slave trade.

A rather duplicitous reply, albeit with some truth to it. Slavery is not a white on black horror. Indeed the entire ancient world operated on slavery in various forms.

However, I do hope being a good Christian you have never worn those infidel/heathen pyjamas.
