Does this book talk about Gilgamesh or Sun Wukong by any chance? When I think characters that want immortality or in Wukong's case have immortality come to mind.

Gilgamesh is a perfect example of seeking immortality and in a sense being immortalized by his deeds.

Wukong becomes immortal but has to learn how to live a righteous life.

I think it's the part that comes before the unconscious part of dying that would be possibly unpleasant that scares people. Death is a mere inconvenience for a Christian. And temporary! And one is with Jesus, so it's not too bad. I still have a task to do here. So, even though I don't know when God will call me home, I will trust in God.
