And now Andrew Sullivan (whom I had an e-mail exchange with back in 99 about gay marriage) is leaving the New York Magazine. Make no mistake it is the left, not the right, who has collapsed the Overton window.

Museum curator forced to resign for saying the museum should accept art from 'white male' artists

Gary Garrels, a senior curator at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, was forced to resign after museum rank-and-file staff demanded his termination for saying at a recent staff meeting, "we will definitely still continue to collect white male artists."

As much as I despise the New York Times, I would not have done this. It comes across as sour grapes.

I mentioned to you elsewhere about my problems exiting a newspaper. I had other newspapers want to interview me about the dispute and I declined because it wasn't going to help anything, and might have made negotiations worse. If working conditions forced her to resign then she could mount her complaint in a labor civil suit.

              Just my two cents.

Andrew Sullivan on his ousting from New York Magazine: Staff believed my columns were 'physically harming' them

"What has happened, I think, is relatively simple: A critical mass of the staff and management at New York Magazine and Vox Media no longer want to associate with me, and in a time of ever tightening budgets, I’m a luxury item they don’t want to afford. And that’s entirely their prerogative," Sullivan explained. "They seem to believe, and this is increasingly the orthodoxy in mainstream media, that any writer not actively committed to critical theory in questions of race, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity is actively, physically harming co-workers merely by existing in the same virtual space. Actually attacking, and even mocking, critical theory’s ideas and methods, as I have done continually in this space, is therefore out of sync with the values of Vox Media. That, to the best of my understanding, is why I’m out of here."

He seems to be guessing, he's making it up. He apparently doesn't even know why he's gone. Big deal.

If he knew then why doesn't he just come out and say it. On the one hand he says that due to tightening budgets he's a luxery they can no longer afford, and on the other he suggests nobody, the staff, likes him or his critical theory gibberish.

Did neocon cancel queen Bari Weiss stage her NY Times resignation to fuel her career?

[Bari Weiss] established herself as the queen of a particular kind of cancel culture. The 36-year-old pundit has dedicated a significant portion of her adult life to destroying the careers of critics of Israel, tarring them as anti-Semites, and carrying out the kind of defamation campaigns that would result in her targets losing their jobs.

The pundit has shown a particular obsession with Palestinian-American scholar Joseph Massad and the New York City-based Palestinian-American activist Linda Sarsour. Other targets have included Keith Ellison, the Minnesota Attorney General who was the first Muslim elected to Congress, and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, an ardent opponent of US regime change wars.

There is also ample evidence that while at Columbia University, Weiss helped bring down the dean of Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs, Lisa Anderson, for inviting Iran’s then-President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad to speak on campus...

Weiss also flexed her bona fides as a proud neoconservative activist, saying she was “honored” to have given the world’s most prestigious media platform to a slew of regime-change activists from countries targeted by the US national security for overthrow, including Venezuela, Iran, and Hong Kong, along with notorious Islamophobe Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Chloe Valdary – a fellow Israel lobby product who previously worked as an intern for Bret Stephens.

In her three-year career as an editor of the opinion section of the newspaper of record, Weiss devoted a significant chunk of her columns to attacking her left-wing critics...

It is worth reviewing this historical record to show how Cancel Queen Bari Weiss’ apparent change of heart on cancel culture might more appropriately be described as an opportunist career choice.

It would be nice to think we've seen the end of this neoconservative who's spent her career trying to get people fired for their views. Unfortunately it seems like this staged resignation is likely just a stunt to draw publicity to her as she moves to some as-yet-unspecified right-wing media network. Perhaps the New York Times should think long and hard about why it employed a neocon famous for persecuting others in the first place.

Andrew Sullivan hasn't been relevant more than a decade now. He was once interesting as he pushed for the Catholic Church to accept same sex marriage, but when he failed on that and got push-back, he folded totally, and became a mindless advocate of Catholicism and conservatism. Leaves his brain in a box at the door of the church on entry.

The author seems to be confusing neoconservatism with neoliberalism. They're pretty much feathers of the same bird when it comes to foreign policy and war. Other than Iran and her view of Israel (probably because she's Jewish, though there are quite many neoliberals that also favor Israel), since when has the left not endorsed wars in Syria and Venezuela? The Dems stood up and cheered for Guaido during the SOTU as did the right. Trump tries to pull troops out of Syria and he gets flak from both the left and the right for being a Putin puppet. Gabbard has also been targeted by the left for being a Putin puppet for her views on Syria. Weiss is just reflecting neoliberal warmongering with slight tweaks here and there.
