Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

I'm here at a Christian forum; I've been discussing Christianity with Christians online for the better part of 30 years - online and in person. If as you say I know nothing about your religion or your holy book, then Christians have failed utterly to bring the gospel to anyone in this country for that same time frame.

I've been here at TWeb for several months. If I still know nothing about your religion, you're an awful Christian.
Oh, it's my fault that you have ignored Christians for 30 years and continue to do so now on theologyweb? Okaaaaay.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

It took me 40 years before I opened my eyes and listened to the gospel ...and my grandpa was a preacher. It's still not too late for you. Pick up a bible and read it. Go to a church for a while.

But I am astounded that you claim to be well over 30 years old. Your posting seems at the 14 year old level.

What took you so long, did you have a life altering experience?

I trust textual criticism to give us accurate translations. But if you want to go read it in Hebrew and Greek, by all means, go for it. But it seems all you do is read what others say about the bible, and with confirmation bias at that. Try actually reading it from start to finish by yourself.

That's your self-serving claim, not mine. The fact is that I've been listening to and trying to talk with Christians for longer than some of the people here have been alive.

You claimed I know nothing about Christianity despite this, which would be impossible if I had done what I described.

Are you accusing me of lying?

Can you demonstrate that I know nothing of Christianity or scripture?

                        Or were you lying?

You can't read my mind to know that I'm actually completely ignorant of your religion, and yet that's what you claimed. You mods lecture people that mind reading is impossible, which is why accusing folks of lying is against the rules. And yet it seems the same mods have no problem reading minds, whenever they find it apologetically expedient...

That depends on which translation is being used. There is rather more to textual criticism than reading the opinion of some theologian.

And of course you do not? You do all your own research which must explain why you consider remarkably mainstream academic commentaries to be "fringe theories".

Oh, it's not only possible but obvious from your posts.

Are you accusing me of lying?
Do you see me calling you a liar? I think you suffer from Dunning-Kruger syndrome. You believe you know what Christianity teaches but you are in actuality very ignorant.

Can you demonstrate that I know nothing of Christianity or scripture?
You are doing a fine job of that yourself.

                            Or were you lying?
No, I am not lying. I am merely stating what I believe based on your ignorant posts and threads.

I don't have to read your mind when I can read your posts, WM. For all I know you could actually be a world expert biblical scholar who is just pretending to be an ignorant dumbass.

sure, but even comparing the various translations, the gist and meaning of the text is remarkably consistent. Especially in the important parts. And where there is a discrepancy or error, they are usually noted in the footnotes.

And of course you do not? You do all your own research which must explain why you consider remarkably mainstream academic commentaries to be "fringe theories".
                              I do both. Have you?

I find the bible is pretty clear on it's own and it is good to read in order and in context rather than to merely read commentaries and books about bits of it.
