  • I'm in Canada, where the COVID police are watching, by Doyle McManus

Below is a link to an interesting article, written by an American journalist, about his experience visiting Canada during the COVID crisis.

    **********************

For two weeks, we waited for the pandemic police to come.

In mid-July, my wife and I headed on vacation to a rustic cabin her father built 65 years ago on a small lake north of Toronto. Most Americans can’t visit Canada these days. Because of the coronavirus threat, both countries have closed their borders to nonessential traffic. But my spouse is a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen, so we were allowed in — as long as we agreed to quarantine ourselves for 14 days.

Not a symbolic, wear-a-mask-and-keep-your-distance-but-go-about-your-business quarantine; a real one — no venturing beyond the cabin and the dock. No shopping trips, no long walks, no visitors. And no swimming in the lake — a question I rashly asked one of the public health officers who telephoned almost every day to check on us...

Ignoring San Marino and Andorra, which have tiny populations which throw off the calculation, below are the countries with the highest number of deaths per million of population:

      1. 850 - Belgium
      2. 683 - UK
      3. 610 - Spain
      4. 606 - Peru
      5. 582 - Italy
      6. 570 - Sweden
      7. 512 - Chile
      8. 486 - USA

      22. 237 - Canada

If I'm not mistaken, Spain, Italy, Belgium, and the UK all had lockdown procedures. Yet they are higher. As is New York City, where the lockdown was drastic. According to the World Health Organization, Sweden's daily deaths peaked in late April at 185 and have been declining ever since; on some recent days, the country has recorded as few as nine deaths. Daily new cases were in the low-to-mid-hundreds for most of July, and a few days no new cases were recorded at all.

But now the MSM holds up New York and NYC as examples to be followed.

I'm always still in trouble again

If I recall correctly---their lockdown came only when the virus spread was overwhelming hospitals...they had no rigorous safety precautions such as masks and tracing before lockdown.
Safety precautions have to remain even after lifting lockdown otherwise there is another wave.
