Grateful Iraqi man
Who said the Iraqi's weren't grateful for the liberation that the US provides? This man, an Iraqi made statues honoring our servicemen. That's a labor of love!

How very wise and intelligent of you Bill.
You're arguing by city. Unfortunately, this thread is about Iraqi freedom, not Fallujah freedom. If the Fallujah-ites don't want to be freed, that's their problem, not ours. Sometimes the horse can be swimming and still not want to drink.
Do you support the policeman who stops the abusive husband, even though the wife wants to return to her husband?

Hopefully, our troops will be pulled out in due time so that the Iraqis may maintain their own independence.

Our troops will be there for a loooonnnggg time, the thought that this would be a quick war was an easy lie to pass on. We will be forced to occupy Iraq even with new Iraqi government for quite a long time. Hopefully, however, we can begin to share responsibilities with the UN in certain regards so as to reduce the number of US troops while keeping a strong force. This will allow for better trop location and shorter tours of duty. Unlike now when we're sending reservists off for 18 months of duty in Iraq, only to tell them they hafta stay 3-6 months more, etc.

Nobody denies, truthman, that most Iraq people want us there and would like democracy, and around half have some feeling of gratitude. But that has little bearing on the way the war turns out. Remember, the founding fathers actually had only 33% of the population on there side, and they won out.
Meh.

The assault on Fallujah has started to turn Iraqi opinion against the Americans. They see an invading army attacking one of their cities, not liberators. The Iraqis will fight the Americans, and the more harm the invaders inflict the more angry the citizens will become. Bush was a fool to expect this to be easy.

April 16th 2004, 05:15 PM #12It will have to turn pretty far, though... my dad works with several soldiers, and the one that just got back from Iraq said that the support is nearly 90% from the Iraqis. I suppose a vocal minority is especially vocal when using weapons and kidnappings.

That's what the public opinion was where he happened to be.
Once this sort of situation starts to deteriorate, it generally continues to do so. If the US can make a friend of al-Sadr, the trend might reverse itself. The more of al-Sadr's people die, the further we get from that hope."Well, I wouldn't kick Mick Jagger out of my bed, but uh, I'm not a homosexual, no."
