Edit: This is a cool piano cover of an Antestor song.
Question for you: I've recently been turned on to some immensely talented prog-metal bands like Opeth and Katatonia that I like musically but many of them have blasphemous lyrics and that turns me off. Have you come across any Christian bands of that kind? Closest I know of is August Burns Red because they mix all kinds of interesting stuff in but they're still mostly screamers on the vocal styling.

I do prefer clean vocal singing to (even shouted) to the growl style but it's hard to find decent music now without it if you like old school hardcore.

I haven't, but I also haven't looked much. Music is far less important to me than it once was; in the last 5 years, I doubt I've even purchased 5 albums.

Re: Late Gen X'ers - Who did you listen to?

Rex Carroll from Whitecross (one word, folks) is forming another band called The King James Band. I've heard them practice and they are really good. Rex was the best guitarist of the 80s-90s for Christian metal, and it is great he is making a comeback.

Also, I listened to STP, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam (though 10 was pretty much the only album, they really lost their way after that musically), and for Christian: Petra, Whitecross, White Heart, Disciple, and a few others I am forgetting. I never liked the screaming bands though.

The King James Band was formed by him in the 90's. Maybe he's just getting them back together?

My younger sister loved Bon Jovi until she saw a picture of him on stage during the "Slippery When Wet" tour.

MC Hammer wasn't really a one hit wonder. He had a number of major hits during the late 80s and early to mid 90s. I was never a fan of his, but I realize I probably wasn't his target audience (which was more pop-oriented and mainstream crowd). I did appreciate the fact that he was outspoken about being a Christian, though I'm not sure he always helped promote the Gospel in a positive way.
