      CONVERTING Atheists

This thread is for past Athiests, Agnostics, etc. who converted to Christianity after high school. My question is simply, Why did you convert? What happened? What points did you find that were so convincing? And was it a result of your own personal thoughts mingling around in your mind and finnaly a light went on, or did a Christian simply win a debate? What happend?

It's funny. I was arguing with this christian at work - most every day. I was 37 at the time. I became a theist about two years earlier but hated the thought of becoming a christian. So the argument went on most of the summer of 90. He then gave me a copy of Mere Christianity - one day, about half way through, I was reading in my car waiting to pick up my son from school - and bang - out of the blue - I believed! I just kept thinking - this is all ture, this is all true - which was kind of wonderful and scary at the same time. That's about it...

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Shakespeare

C.S. Lewis has been my mentor since the beginning...and I have always thought that that was his best work. That's so awsome

I was a dyed in the wool materialist.

I was 22, watching Billy Graham with the sound turned off listening to Andres Segovia, kicking it hippy style, for some unknown reason I got up and turned up the sound and heard the Gospel of the kingdom, about 2 minutes worth, I have idea how or why I just knew it was true and I believed and repented.

The only time I was in a church before that was when my parents made me go to Sunday school because I got caught stealing. I punched the Pastors son for kicking me under the table, they did not invite me back.

I had never ever heard one positive thing about God before that in my whole life but when I heard the gospel I believed it and knew that it was true..
Flaming Full Preterist. If you don't get it don't bother.
The early Church fathers were theological nitwits and things got worse. If your theology involves them your'e lost and you need to reformat.

I was 29, and writing a novel to spell out my Nietzschean philosophy, Ayn Rand style, and God came in and turned my world upside down. It was out of the blue, and certainly not something I was looking for. But I'm glad he did.
