Though if it's silly, it can't be an ethical dilemma. Or can it? In a very darkly humorous way.
If it weren't for the Resurrection of Jesus, we'd all be in DEEP TROUBLE!

That would make it even more pointless than if you inserted the Justice League and the Avengers and the Enterprise crew and every other fictional hero. Because Jesus is real and infinity more aewsome and powerful than any character we can make up.
        ## Except that Supey, Spidey, Bats, the JLA, the Enterprise, Harry Potter, etc., are more likely to turn up, because they are not Divine.

          Blog: Atheism and the City

If your whole worldview rests on a particular claim being true, you damn well better have evidence for it. You should have tons of evidence.

Well, now that some idiot bumped my thread by barfing on it, anyone want to continue discussing ethical dilemma thought experiments? Are there any with an obvious third option to a false dilemma?

Just because He was sleeping in that one instance doesn't mean He'd be asleep in the hypothetical lifeboat scenario. He sure wasn't sleeping when He was walking on the water towards His disciples. It was stormy then also.

My point was to show that Jesus wasn't worried in that scenario... so He would not be worried in the hypothetical one [in the OP] either.

Of course not. Jesus wouldn't be scared of any mere storm. Even if it was a category five hurricane! He wouldn't be scared by a horror movie ever!

To exclude the possibility of self-sacrifice by one of them, is as artificial as positing that one of them may be a superhero. More artificial in fact; because people are capable of self-sacrifice, and quite often do sacrifice themselves for others. So the problem is inherently unreal.

Yep! It would be more realistic for there to be a debate about who gets to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Putting the lifeboat question on Jesus is a bit like the "can God make a rock bigger than he can lift? question. Any way you answer it's a setup for problems.

Nah. Just a pointless scenario. That other question is an illogical statement. Might as well ask if God can make a square circle. Nothing illogical about Jesus being able to do a miracle to solve the problem.
