can't screen capture DVD on WinXP
i wanna get a screen capture from a DVD for my avatar, but i can't. it's hard to explain, but paint and irfanview will have the image in the window, but it will be off centered or else gone if the DVD player is closed. ...as though the image isn't really there, and alli captured was a window back to the player. this happens regardless of what player i use to play the DVD.
funny thing is, i got a successful screen capture from a DVD about several months ago. though, i've reformatted the hard drive since then.
anyone have any ideas?Living so free is a tragedy

Practically the same experience. I can capture anything off the screen except DVD images. They show up in various programs, but will not allow themselves to be used or saved. I do understand there are programs (illegal?) that will work.

Nope. Most DVD players, especially WMP9, will use hardware buffering or some similar trick to prevent it from being captured.

Hmm. there is the DivX DVD player.. I have successfully captured images from DVD with that, but on Win2000. I can't do it on XP due to a codex issue with my version DVD player, so can't say if it works.. and I don't think it is free.
There are other free players you can find online searching via Google, these may not have the limitations you are running into..

May 6th 2004, 09:47 PM #7I can capture screenshots from DVD's with "PowerDVD". I think it's pretty much the "standard" of software DVD players... http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/p....jsp?ProdId=28

check out an example (maybe not the best example either) of a screenshot I captured below...Romans 1:20 "Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe." - NKJV
