Alright, this is just plain sick!
[/exile]
I haven't seen anyone else post this yet and it's just so completely outrageous, that I felt it needed to be posted ASAP:
This "incident" just defies words. Is this a taste of the future?

Um...something tells me there's a lot more to this story. Are there any other details or articles available for public consumption?

Um...something must have precipitated this action on the part of the administration.

Re: Alright, this is just plain sick!
The only information though in the article is that the student in question denied in his deposition having made any suicidal threats or threats to harm anyone. Which apparantly was the basis for the school officials to consider having him commited.

The Judge therefor ruled that he should have the right to bring a suit against the school as he had no evidence one way or the other that either the student or the officials were at fault.
The suit will result in the officials having to provide evidence that the student indeed made such threats in their presence.
Nowhere in the article, is there any court declaration that either claim was correct or false. It is only an OK to proceed to trial.
In other words, the outcome of the upcoming trial is yet to be commented on by anyone since the trial has not occured and all the details will hopefuly be revealed in the process.
As far as I am concerned I will withold from making any claims that the incident was outragious or warranted by the student's behavior until a court of law has established evidence of what the truth may be.
We fortunatly still live in a nation where one is innocent until pronounced guilty and by a court of law..... not unconclusive information drawn from a newspaper article.
I hope Jinx will share the court findings when they are published........

It's from World Nut Daily. Not a trustworthy source, folks.
I suggest that you search his name. Marcavage is clearly some kind of nut, who has sued before. Like many nuts, Marcavage has learned that lawsuits, properly handled, can result in quick income. Fred Phelps, of God Hates Fags fame, makes his living from suing people who assault him after he abuses and threatens them. Marcavage is clearly cut from that mold. He has constant brushes with the law like this one here. It wouldn't surprise me if Marcavage was following his usual pattern of abusive, inciteful behavior, for which Temple authorities, extremely put out by the threats and disruptions of Marcavage, tried to get him committed. I suspect that once Marcavage's record becomes known to the Court, the lawsuit will be thrown out.

blemonds, if you'd read the original news article, you'd see that the reasons given for commiting this guy were that he threatened harm to himself and others (in light of which, its not unreasonable to suggest that he was suffering from some psychiatric disorder)

All I'm saying is that we should ALL avoid adopting emotionally-charged opinions based on incomplete or unverifyable information. That goes for those on both sides of this fence. I want some real information.

That's just your personal opinion, and everything you've posted after it doesn't support it in the least. Not a trustworthy source, folks.
Looks like the times he's sued, he's done so with good reason. He also has obviously shown some restraint.I suggest that you search his name. Marcavage is clearly some kind of nut, who has sued before.
Unlike one Michael Newdow, who is a hero in the minds of many people who condemn Marcavage, of course.
One case with a minimal settlement. Wow. When it comes to lawsuits, $1500 is chump-change these days. That probably only covered his personal legal costs and lost income. Had what happened to him happened to a homosexual, I've no doubt that the settlement or judgment would've been in the millions of dollars and that you would've supported it.Like many nuts, Marcavage has learned that lawsuits, properly handled, can result in quick income.
This isn't about Fred Phelps, but since you brought it up, do you think abuse and threats against people you personally disagree with are okay to do just because you personally disagree with them? Does a person's message have some bearing on whether or not certain actions against them are deemed to be illegal or not?Fred Phelps, of God Hates Fags fame, makes his living from suing people who assault him after he abuses and threatens them.
Based on one case?Marcavage is clearly cut from that mold.
His "constant" brushes with the law obviously stem from the fact that people don't like his message and want to suppress it.
Interesting story, BTW. Marcavage and others were barred from and charged with trespass in a public park and were charged with disorderly conduct while conduct at the PrideFest in the public park included "the sale of pornographic materials, public nudity, men dressed like women and obscene language over a public address system." Seems a bit bass-ackwards to me.
Considering that the actions of San Francisco's officials were completely and unquestionably illegal, I find little wrong with their act of civil disobedience.like this one here.
According to the links you provided, it's obvious that it's not Marcavage's behavior that is "abusive" and "inciteful," but the behavior of those trying to suppress his message. It wouldn't surprise me if Marcavage was following his usual pattern of abusive, inciteful behavior,
Even if his actions were as you describe, that in no way excuses the admitted fact that they lied in trying to get him committed.for which Temple authorities, extremely put out by the threats and disruptions of Marcavage, tried to get him committed.
Don't count on it. His record has nothing to do with the legitimacy of his lawsuit. Indeed, if it did, many a convicted felon would have their rightful lawsuits thrown out of court.I suspect that once Marcavage's record becomes known to the Court, the lawsuit will be thrown out.GONE FOR GOOD BECAUSE THE MODS ARE FRICKIN' RETARDS

Anybody who tries to stop a good, clean, wholesome play like Corpus Christi is not only sick in the head but flamingly anti-Catholic. "Corpus Christi" is Latin. Exploring the sexuality of Christ is a past-time for Catholics for centuries.
