Augusta, golf, and men
I'm confused about this whole Augusta golf course issue. Apparently they don't want women there. I really can't figure out why, that is unless, it is a gay course. Are all those guys that are members closet homosexuals?

I live here in Augusta. The Masters golf club is a restricted group because of male chauvinism, NOT homosexuality. It is one of the last bastions of old tradition, with ideologies like "women can't do this" or "women shouldn't do that".

Let me pose this question:
Why is it not okay for Augusta to be male only?
Are clubs that are exlusive to gender wrong?
What about the girl scouts or lady fitness? We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. I, as a woman, couldn't care less if they are male-only. More power to them.

April 13th 2003, 11:08 PM #6Its not the end game that matters, but rather the intention of the rule. For instance, it would be wrong for them to exclude women because merely of their gender. Rather, it would be okay if the men did this in order so that they could be farting and smoking cigars without women being around so that they aren't embarressed.Today @ 10:48 PM post located here

As I said before, its the intentions of the action that bind whether they are wrong or not. I doubt you'd buy cookies from the Boy Scouts. That would be just weird. As for lady fitness, well, I don't know how much working your uterus needs, but I'm pretty sure that most other men are void of needing such exercising. Are clubs that are exlusive to gender wrong?

Way to not really answer the question.

Who cares what the intent is? These groups are private, and as such, who says that they have to be all inclusive? It's not like they are using gov't money and are saying, "you chicks can't golf here". Privately funded groups have a right to set the policy regarding the activity of their group.
Here's a question:
Why don't the feminists, who want to play golf with a bunch of guys that they hate, go and build a ladies only golf course equal to that of augusta? I'm sure that they could find a few high-power women like Carly Fiorina (CEO, Hewlet-packard) to donate for the start-upWe believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. You don't need to join a club if it's farting and cigars that you are after! Just meet pat and I at Cafe Pergolesi in Santa Cruz sometime in the next month.

April 14th 2003, 02:20 AM #14I THINK it's something along those lines actually. They just want a place to get away where they can enjoy the company of men for awhile. It's just an adult version of GROSS (Get Rid Of Slimy girlS). I don't have any problem with this. My wife has a "girls' night out" every now and then. I think it's the same kind of thing.Today @ 04:08 AM post located here
