Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

    Have you seen this: http://www.apologeticsindex.org/2662...of-the-trinity

    It appears Mr. Jakes is not quite there yet, however, the progress he did make seems to have come about through personal study and a pressing discussion with Mr. Driscoll and Mr. McDonald.

    Anyhow, it's high noon - well past my bedtime - Gooday.

      Yeah, he still has a ways to go, but progress is progress.

        I do see why people tend to be wary of discernment sites. Unfortunately, it seems like most of them are "everybody goes to hell except me" sites.

          11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;
          12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.

          The Christian's responsibility does not stop with his own rejection of evil. He is also responsible for exposing and opposing darkness wherever it is found, especially when it is found in the church.

            Yes, those extremes need to be avoided. I sometimes get the impression that discernment ministries are akin to end-time ministries - the sky is falling, everything is wrong, and we are the only remnant who is conscious of these things. Some seemingly make it their full-time job to dissect the outlandish claims of the "false teachers", almost in a spiritually pornographic way - like covering their eyes and exclaiming "O, how unholy!" whilst slowly lifting one finger to eagerly read more. Could it be that their spiritual life is running dry and checking in to see what (they believe) the devil is doing, is far more interesting? Who knows but once again, I don't think those people are going to change their minds based upon what I say here. Just like publicly rebuking Joel Osteen will generate cheers from the we-already-know crowd whilst the Joel Osteen crowd will ignore it or respond with a "you have a spirit of jealousy" thing. Meanwhile the Christian's are out there dutifully working in the background making disciples and ministering to the poor.

              I think a more fitting verse would be "preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction." (2Tim. 4:2).

                      They both fit the situation of these false teachers.

                        The verse mossy posted more directly relates to the situation we're discussing. In fact, it directly relates to false teaching. Why should it be discarded in favor of a less contextual verse?
