Angry AIG inculating anti-science (or at least anti-scientist) views in kids!

I first read about it here, but I didn't want to believe it until I had checked it out for myself here. Yep, that's exactly what they're doing!

Get a load of this letter by "Mike G" under the "Creationize (not evolutionize) your kids:

      letter

Mike G. explained that even his 5-year-old
son watched a Ken Ham video series which con-tained
      information about dinosaurs. He wrote,
"I was not real sure if my son was grasping
any of the information... . Well, tonight at bed-
time I realized that he has been getting a healthy
dose of the truth... . He asked me why the scientists
want to deceive people by telling lies about
creation and dinosaurs. When I explained that if
they admitted to the fact of God creating everything
that they would have to face their own sin,

my son thought about it for a second and then
said, "Daddy I know what I am going to do when
I get older and can read by myself ... I am going
to go to the library and get all of the science books
and erase all of the lies in them." Needless to
say I wept and thanked God for my son. ...'

You can teach your young ones the truth. One
of the finest creationist books on the subject is
Dinosaurs by Design. Beautifully illustrated, it
is packed with information to help children think
biblically about those 'missionary lizards'. See
page 10 for a special price this month.

Oh yeah! He's proud of the fact that:

      1) his kid now believes that scientists deliberately lie about evolution because they don't want to face "god" (tell that to people like Glen Morton, Glen Kuban, Roger C.Weins, etc!)

      2) his kid now want to go and deface public library books!

You to go, you AIG scum, you've turned another peerson into an anti-science bigot!

That kid (and his father) need a serious dose of good science! Maybe they should go to TalkOrgins.org or Glen Morton's site or something!

Too bad that now they'd just think that Glen et al are liars....

Thank you for ignoring the actual issues I've pointed out.

So, are you implying that since I'm having a "temper tantrum" you have no problem with some kid vandalizing library books because they go against his religious beliefs?

EDIT: You'll not that there is no hint of condemnation from AIG about this act the kid wants to do! Just the opposite, if anything, since this is a "positive testimonial" that they're using for their cause. That, and the fact that pretty much every honest scientist has been successfully slandered and demonized in this kids and parents' eyes. You may not care Abigail about such wholesale slander, Lord knows you YEC's sure don't. You people are responsible for it, but I do!

Look at it this way: How do you feel when someone criticized, say, people like you with such a broad brush?

Besides, if getting angry at people who encourage vandalism of books qualifies as a "temper tantrum", well, then lady, there you have me.

By the way, if your just looking for "temper tantrums", you should read some of Socrates or JPH's posts. You know, the guys who post stuff like "misotheists" "bigot" "anti-Christian fanatic" and other fun stuff like that. Up to it?

Now, are you just going to act condescending or are you actually going to discuss the issues?

Of course I looked at the issues raised in your post...and it was my opinion you were making a mountain out of a molehill. It is a report of a conversation between a bloke and his 5 year old son - and conversation with a 5 year old is not the same as that between two adults. The report is quite brief so is hardly meat for making judgements - also you do not know what was said to the boy about the library comment. The report says the man wept and thanked God and you seem to have interpreted it as thanking God that he had a library vandaliser as a son, but I see it more as thanking God that he has a son who cares about truth and God's word. The comment had nothing to do with the library. The bit about the library was merely reporting what the 5 year old said. A while back when the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by US soldiers was shown on TV my own young son turned to me and said 'Mum I hate Americans'. Now of course I have have issues with a statement like that since being a Christian family we are called to love everyone, but I was pleased that the suffering of others mattered to my son. It took some explaining to get across to him in a way he could comprehend, the nuances of the situation and the rights and wrongs too.

YEC's are often called liars and deliberate ones by people like Glenn Morton. In fact as I recall Glen, had (or has) a signature where he basically accuses YEC's of being deliberate liars (he quotes a certain verse which basically equates the 'truth' of evolution to the truth of the gospel). To me your complaint is a clear cut case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Yes, Holding and Socrates have a particular style of posting. Your line about 'there you go AiG scum' - or to the effect, just reminded me of the lines the superheroes come out with in the cartoons and hence my comment . It is Saturday morning after all!!

In the interset of historical accuracy, My signature, now changed said that the fastest way to atheism was through YEC and I also cited Hebrews 10:26. I had tried to quote the Bible in a post. I had quoted hebrews 10:26. A moderator had edited it out as inflammatory. (of course the Bible is an inflammatory document--that is why it changes lives by shining light upon our failings). Because I felt strongly that suppression of quoting the Bible on a theological website was rather oxymoronic, I added that verse to my signature. The verse says:

"For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, "

Now, if YECs want us to take Genesis seriously, literally and read it in the most natural fashion, why don't they want to read Heb. 10:26 in the same manner when faced with observational data which shows that their ideas about geology are highly flawed.

This is not a gripe against anyone or anything other than an attempt to correct a false statement made by Abigail about my signature. I never said YECs were liars in my signature. I have on very rare occasions over the past 10 years said some individual YECs were liars.

I support you Glenn, as you make it quite clear that you consider nearly all YEC to be honest and mistaken rather than liars, and have even told me off when I have said that YECs are not very good at keeping the 9th commandment.

I would ask Abigail to give me ONE YEC argument which is not riddled with misrepresentation. I have been reading YEC stuff since 1971 and still havent found one honest and sound argument. Also abigail you should be careful with what you charge Glenn with and dont make false alegations about him.

The thing I most appreciate about Glenn is his transparent honesty and his willingness to correct his mistakes (which are very rare indeed on geology). I dont always agree with him on other matters including biblical interpretation but these are minor points. We need more Glenns.

On AIG they seem determined to distort and to try to discredit other Christians with charges of compromisers etc. I will leave it to the God of all truth to judge them.

Glenn, I fail to see how what you have written differs from my interpretation of the incident - unless of course you didnt think through the ramifications of exactly how others would interpret what you were saying at the time. Perhaps you would care to tell us exactly how the verse tied in with YEC's then if I have interpreted you so wrongly.

      [/QUOTE]

Misrepresentation is misrepresentation and is wrong even if not deliberate. Deliberate misrepresentation is downright sinful, but if one continues to misrepesent when you have had it pointed out then clearly that is sinful and Hebs 10.26 seems to apply.

I am honestly trying to ascertain whether YECs (leaders especiallY) are deliberately misrepresenting. One whom I would not name because I am afraid of a court case was deliberate and another admitted to someone that lying for the Gospel is good.

Please remind me of my misrepresentations of Mortenson, state what they were and I will answer them.

You were accusing Mortenson of statements he never made but was only reporting as far as I could see. Does Euphrates and Tigris ring a bell?...should do as that was the clue you gave me when I asked you to provide evidence of your claims against Mr Mortenson. I actually (after much searching for the evidence you said was there) reported your post to the moderators as I felt it was unfair against Mortenson.
