Windows SP2
Should I install this? What are the issues I need to be aware of?

I would recommend you install it since it is mostly a security release but XP SP2s firewall is kinda a nuisance imo.
Have you the brain worms?!

Yeah, install it. You should get a slight speed increase and the security is worth it. The firewall shouldn't get in the way much unless you do a bunch of weird stuff.(besides surfing and email)

The download was unavailable until very late last night andn then it recommended a backup before installing it whichn I did.

I had some crazy DNS trouble when I installed.
I did exactly what MS doesn't want people to do by turning off the security center and the alert monitor and fixed the problem.

I had a problem with lockups afer installing. I suspect I'm an exception to the rule, but I had to uninstall SP2. Yes, I highly recommend backing up first.
