      Is The Impossible Possible?

      JW:
This thread will continue the discussion between JW and JP regarding the question: Is the impossible possible? Currently, JW is arguing that the impossible is impossible while JP is arguing that the impossible is possible. Related to this philosophical question we are currently discussing whether resurrections which are impossible are possible.

And Joe has failed to answer if it is possible for a voice to speak out of a bush that is never consumed, and for a donkey to talk, and for the Red Sea to be parted down the middle, and for manna to fall from heaven. Get cracking Joe, we are eager to hear your equivo....errr answer.

"For nothing will be impossible with God."

      What is the debate again?

"The things impossible with men are possible with God."

"And God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power"

How the heck are you supposed to answer this question? If something can be done, its possible not impossible, even if it is labeled as such. Those are the definitions of the words!
      Meh.

[Is] it is possible for a voice to speak out of a bush that is never consumed,
Yup. Use a loudspeaker for the voice and don't consume the bush. Or do you mean Bush as in Dubya? In which case I'd still say yes, in that a voice often comes from him and he hasn't been consumed yet, both regrettably IMO.

and for a donkey to talk,
      Yup. See "Shrek".

and for the Red Sea to be parted down the middle,
Not beyond modern engineering I would think. Getting the funding might be difficult.

and for manna to fall from heaven.
Load manna into C130, climb to 20,000 feet, drop manna out. Simple!

(Sorry DD, couldn't resist it. )

Maybe it would be worth defining the terms. Are you talking about practical, physical or logical possibilities and impossibilities?

(I don't even see the point in this, but I'm a sucker for double-speak.)

There are many things which are possible for some and impossible for others: breaking world records, graduating from high school, the resurrection of Christ...

Are we gonna go over that "rock so big that God can't lift it" thing again?

If God can create the universe just by speaking it into existence, then what's the big deal about doing anything else?

I think DBoone and Socrates have good points. Some things are impossible by definition. Those things will never be possible, even for God. God cannot create a rock heavier than He can lift, because the idea of a rock heavier than God can lift/move is philosophically impossible.

Things such as a burning bush not being consumed by the fire, or a talking donkey are things which are conceivably possible, and definatly possible for God. If you have ever dipped your fingertips in alcohol and set them on fire, then you know that even though there were flames on your fingers you did not get burned (until the alcohol was consumed). I'm not saying this is what happened to the bush, just that a burning bush not being consumed is possible. As far as a talking donkey goes, maybe after a century of genetic engineering we'll be able to get a donkey to talk, and although now it is outside of our ability when you have a Being such as God who is far more technologically advanced than we will ever be, you could make it happen in an instant.

Wally seems to think "practically impossible" and "actually impossible" mean the same thing.

It is "impossible" for me to lift a Volkswagen by myself. It is not "impossible" for a crane to do so.

I have walked through Wally's list of 1001 alleged NT contradicitons up to #53 now and this is the same sort of nonsense he pulls through the whole thing.

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.
