Scariest Horror Film/Book Monster/creature(s)
Okay, October is just half a month away and Halloween soon to follow.
Out of all the choices, which would you say is scarier? Now, I 'm not just talking about how you feel when watching the film. Did any of these make you turn your head when you were alone in a dark room or make you have bad dreams?
And if you can't name a specific entity, feel free to go into specific books and movies.
Vampires? I'm not that afraid of vampires because they have intelligence. Yes, they're depraved and kill humans for food, but the movies are more suspenseful - when they're not schlockish - than scary or horrific.
The wolfman? Pfft. Silver bullet his butt.
Ghosts? What's the worst they can do, make me crap in my pants in front of my parents?
Zombies. Now THAT's what I find scary. The first zombie flick that I've ever seen was the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead. This is one scary movie. This film single handedly influenced the look of modern zombies. Gone were the days of green-skinned undead. The zombies in this film really looked like reanimated corpses.
I'm willing to admit now that the scariest nightmares I have are ones with zombies in them. There's nothing scarier than being locked up in a house beseiged by hordes of flesh-craving zombies. Except perhaps getting caught out in the open while surrounded by hordes of flesh-craving zombies. And without a gun. I can't believe I've only dreamt of having a gun TWICE in all my zombie nightmares, and in one of them, I had no ammo.
So, what makes you look over your shoulder in the dark?"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, and why we died. All that matters is that today, two stood against many. Valor pleases you, so grant me this one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, the HELL with you!" - Conan the Barbarian
"So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb." - Dark Helmet, Spaceballs

Yes. The living dead...there's just no question.
The worst are the ones that you knew when they were alive, like your kid or your mom. And then, you hear a rustling (shuffling) downstairs one night, and you see them at the kitchen table, and they turn around, they start to droll, get that blank look on their faces, and they're eating something, and it's another family member's gnawed off arm. That's no place to be."A Noble Spirit Embiggens the Smallest Man."

The aliens from Hammer's Quatermass and the Pit. The only thing to ever give me bad nights.

Vampires aren't scary. They're more tragic, plus I'd love to be bitten and become a vampire myself.
Ghosts are rubbish, they don't do anything.
Zombies are only scary if they can move as fast (or faster) as humans.
The first episode of the X-files I ever saw was about a werewolf, and it was reasonably scary. But on the whole werewolves are pretty lame.
When I watched Predator when I was a kid I nearly died of fright that night, even with my light on. I was sure he was gonna come and get me.
So aliens (if they're done right) are the scariest.

Sharks. No question. Sharks are the scariest thing ever. I don't mean like the cuddly little blighters at your local aquarium. I'm talking the big Jaws-style-bite-your-ass-in-half-and-your-surf-board-too variety. Also Zombies are pretty frickin' scary. Maybe almost tied with sharks for most scary. What with the rotting stench and insatiable cannibalism, there's nothing you can do but run screaming. In fact anything that is going to start to "feed" before making sure you are dead is pretty nasty in my book. Hannibal Lector, natch.
Zombie sharks? Now that's scary. They would bite rocks just to show how bad they are.

Does my avatar inspire horror?
If there is anything I’ve learned from both conservatives and liberals, it’s that we can have all the “right” answers and still be mean. And when you’re mean, it’s hard for people to listen to, much less desire, your truth.

I always found the original "Halloween" flick scary...Micheal Myers is a particularly disturbing character. Did you ever notice that he never runs? He simply walks, very methodically and deliberately towards his victims. Creepy...AND he can take a bullet, explosion etc and keep on tickin'!

I love all the people badmouthing ghosts here. But you know, something does not have to put you in mortal danger to frighten you so bad that your bones transform into freezing sleet.
But I'm not so sure that ghosts can't harm you. Remember The Shining? Or The House on Haunted Hill? Or The Ring?
But I know the reason that you folks are badmouthing ghosts: A Misguided attempt at courage through dismissal.
But you know what's worse then the fact that I know this?
The ones that pass by you while you're in bed know it too.
