Eastern Catholic? Is there Western Orthodox?
I keep hearing about these Byzantine Catholic churches which are basically Orthodox submitting to Rome. I was wondering, does anyone know of cases where Roman churches submitted to... uh... the East?
This isn't just to spite my good Catholic chums, but it's just to see who's actually getting some good fruits here.O noble Virgin, truly you are greater than any other greatness. For who is your equal in greatness, O dwelling place of God the Word? To whom among all creatures shall I compare you, O Virgin? You are greater than them all O Covenant, clothed with purity instead of gold! You are the Ark in which is found the golden vessel containing the true manna, that is, the flesh in which divinity resides. - St Athanasius of Alexandria

Re: Eastern Catholic? Is there Western Orthodox?
I hear that there are some experimental Western liturgies set up, but that's about it. One of the major problems that prevents West ever going over to East is that the East really has gotten wedded to the ethnic Church idea, and a good deal of the conversion preparation (or so I hear) is learning to cook the ethnic foods and such.

Re: Eastern Catholic? Is there Western Orthodox?
There are some Western Orthodox churches in the U.S. under the jurisdiction of the Patriarch of Antioch, and there is also an older Western Orthodox Church in France which I believe was founded by Russian emigres early in the 20th century. The "Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia" also has some Western-Rite parishes, I believe.

LOL, I have never heard of anyone having to learn to prepare ethnic dishes in order to become Orthodox. LOL. But if you are going to a predominantly Russian parish, it probably wouldn't hurt to bring things they might like to the coffee hour.
My own parish has several Russian members, and I absolutely love their food. Of course, we're mostly converts at my parish, so there's plenty of American dishes as well.
There are several Western Rite churches in the United States, although none in my area. I've found that many who start out in Western Rite eventually "come over" to the Eastern rite - sometimes whole churches.
