Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
Finished The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Enjoyed it very much. I'm slogging through Madame Bovary on my ipod, but it's slow going. I have Dead or Alive by Tom Clancy next on my pile of "real" books.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

About to start James White's The King James Only Controversy. Anybody else read it?
CS Lewis, Mere ChristianityThere is no need to be worried by facetious people who try to make the Christian hope of 'Heaven' ridiculous by saying they do not want 'to spend eternity playing harps'. The answer to such people is that if they cannot understand books written for grown-ups, they should not talk about them.

Finished No More Christian Nice Guy. I highly recommend it, for anyone who recognizes that they have been affected by the watered-down version of Jesus and Christianity in our culture, and for anyone who has suffered abuse that has robbed them of a will and assertiveness--ladies too, even though it's marketed for passive guys but what is taught is also true for women too.

My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz

"If God has given [his people] such joy now, joy in their faith, in their hope, in love, in the truth of his scriptures, what kind of joy is he preparing for them at the end? If he feeds them like this on the journey, how will he feast them in their homeland?"--Augustine of Hippo

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
Dragon Champion by E. E. Knight
The Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss
Ante-Nicene Fathers Vol. 7 - Lactantius, Venantius, Asterius Urbanus, Victorinus, Dionysius of Rome, the Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, a homily ascribed to Clement, and a couple early liturgies. Lactantius takes up about 3/5 of the book, and the Constitutions another fifth, so everything else is pretty short.
Also, re-reading Issola b Steven Brust.Last edited by One Bad Pig; February 18th 2012 at 09:05 PM.
