Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
Just picked up The Burning Tigris by Peter Balakian. It's about the Armenian genocide and America's response at the time. I was utterly shocked when I first heard about the Armenian genocide last week (here on Tweb somewhere) that I'd never heard of it before. It apparently loomed large on the American consiousness for decades. I've always enjoyed leaning about history. Why did it take me 30 years to learn of an event of this magnitude?

Trans-Sister Radio by Chris Bohjalian.
It is a novel that delves into the life of a trans-gendered man, his romantic and personal relationships and the response of the community around him. So far, I find the book to be lovely, sensitive, and empathetic.

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
a religious history of america - gaustad. pretty good, and goes back to columbus, including spanish and french missionary work, not just since 1776.
a short history of international organization - mangone. i'm not even to WWI yet but there's a lot in here i never thought of, like the history of the world post.
the origin and growth of religion - w. schmidt - really scholarly, so it's been hard to get through, but it's pretty goodEach man's knowledge is genuine to the extent that it is confirmed by gentleness, humility, and love. - st. mark the ascetic.
You move from fear to religious devotion, from which springs spiritual knowledge; from this knowledge comes judgment, that is, discrimination; from discrimination comes the strength that leads to understanding; from thence you come to wisdom. - st. peter of damaskos

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
just a side line.
when you finish a good book.
take a moment to go to amazon and write a customer review.
1-it will help solidify the ideas you learned in the book to organize and express them.
2-it will help other people decide to read or not to read the book.
3-you, if you left an email, will get lots of interesting mail on the review.
good stuff.

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
The Holy Bible - God A must read for all Christians and a really good read for everyone else. (I prefere the ESV translation)
Dracula - Bram Stoker (or is it Stroker?)
Brother's Karamozov - (Don't even ask me how to speel that name)
I read mostly non-fiction, but since Borders has a "cheap" clasics series I am reading some of the great works that I have never read before.
Dracula is really good so far. BK is probably really good, but it is soooooo long and I only can read a little at a time so it is hard to keep up with.Where is human nature so weak as in the bookstore?- Henry Ward Beecher

Dracula is great, especially when understood in its original Victorian context of female virtue vs. the rakish gentleman.

Just finished (for about the fourth time, but it's a book I like to review every once in awhile) Democracy In America by Alexis de Tocqueville, and am most of the way through The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis (again) as well as the Mac Arthur Revelation study.
I just ordered Why I am a Lutheran by Daniel Preus, it comes highly recommended, so when I get it I will have to read it thoroughly. I've not read anything new in awhile, so this will be good for me."Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed" - Psalm 139:16 (NRSV)

How was it, compared to the others? After Mostly Harmless, I wasn't exactly inspired to read any further.

Well Salmon of Doubt is not really a sequal but a collection of short stories, musings and personal history for Adams'. There is a great short story about Gengis Khan, what inspired him, his dealing's with Disney, and other notable events.
