Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
I had that one years ago, but it got lost in a move. I have The Once and Future King by T. H. White, which is loosely based on Sir Thomas' book. I'll have to dig it out. It's been a while since I read it.

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
Dude, sometimes I can barely remember what day of the week it is, and now you want me to remember page numbers?
I'll just spend some time converting the PDF's to ePub or .Mobi sometime soon, seem as unless you actually own a Kindle (h/ware) you can't use Amazon's email converter.
Just means spending an hour or so sorting out some formatting issues."If you can ever make any major religion look absolutely ludicrous, chances are you haven't understood it"

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
After finishing David Oderberg's "Real Essentialism", i'm waiting for "An Elementary Christian Metaphysics" by Joseph Owens to come in the mail.
"Without strong traditions of honor and virtue-conducive institutions, democracy is passive-aggressive savagery, each person out for himself or herself, but by whining rather than beating; and in such a society the most savagely passive-aggressive begin to dominate others. This can, however, be resisted, dampened, or redirected by traditions and institutions".

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
How was Real Essentialism? It's been on my to-read list for a while. (Same with An Elementary Christian Metaphysics.)
"If God has given [his people] such joy now, joy in their faith, in their hope, in love, in the truth of his scriptures, what kind of joy is he preparing for them at the end? If he feeds them like this on the journey, how will he feast them in their homeland?"--Augustine of Hippo
"It cannot be that the people should grow in grace unless they give themselves to reading. A reading people will always be a knowing people."--John Wesley
"Wherever men are still theological there is still some chance of their being logical."--G. K. Chesterton

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
Very helpful, if you want to know more about the aristotelian conception of substance. Oderberg is knowledgeable both in modern metaphysics and in medieval philosophy; the best parts were chapter 2 (in which he rebuts some of the most common arguments against essentialism) and the discussion of life in chapter 8. It's definitely worth the money.
I'll let you know more when i read AECM.

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?
I've actually recently read one book he references several times (The Didache: Its Jewish Sources and Its Place in Early Judaism and Christianity by David Flusser and Huub van de Sandt).
He disagrees with them that the Trinitarian baptismal formula in Matt 28:19 is a later interpolation (p. 135). In the Didache, baptism is administered by someone else (no qualifications specified), and immersion is clearly preferred. The exception of a triple pouring does not imply a triple immersion, but may have been done to ensure a complete dousing. The ritual signified admission to the community of believers. Infant baptism is ruled out, as the account presupposes people of age to receive instruction (pp. 202-203). The author in general seems to have a bias against infant baptism.
