Glory Seed Guidelines

Notice – The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.

These daily devotionals are brought to you by Gary Piper, a writer with our Sister Site, Natural Spirit Ministries. TheologyWeb encourages you to visit and support their site.... they have many informative articles which can be discussed right here. If you enjoy Gary Piper's devotionals, please send him an encouraging note or post. We are very appreciative of our partnership with Natural Spirit Ministries and look forward to many more co-ventures.

    A Glory Seed Devotional
When you hunger more for Jesus than you do food…

Philip answered him, "Six months' wages would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little." One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But what are they among so many people?" (John 6:7-9 NRSV)

None of us have stood before Jesus and looked him in the eye as Andrew did and ask, “But what are they among so many people?” However, I don’t know about you but that isn’t that unfamiliar of a question to me. Some of my questions go like this. “But Jesus, who am I that are you asking me to do this?” Or, “What have I to offer for such an important act as you are asking me to do?” Or, “Jesus, I know what needs to be done but I am ill equipped to do it can you please find someone else.” Or, “I can’t go through with what the doctors are saying can you please make it go away?”

In verse 5 Jesus put Phillip to a test, “When he looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, ‘Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?’” (John 6:5 NRSV) Jesus wasn’t asking Phillip for a solution to the problem of feeding so many; he knew it was an impossible task not only for Phillip but for any human. Jesus was asking Phillip as he asks each one of us if he trusted him enough to do what Phillip or any human could not do.

I dare say every day of our lives we are confronted with impossible situations it may be as simple as smiling (which at times is not that simple), as difficult as loving someone who has hurt us, overcoming a life debilitating experience that has long held us captive, facing the possibility of death, one of another of hundreds of “things” we cannot do by ourselves, or even a combination of “things” coming at us at once.

In John 10:10 Jesus says, “…I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (selected portion) I am sure you know the outcome of the impossible task of feeding so many with so little but just in case you need a reminder. “Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted.” (John 6:11 NRSV) It is important to note the people had “as much as they wanted,” because they were hungry more for Jesus than they were for food. While it may be true they were hungry for Jesus to do miracles, it is also true they connected with Jesus much deeper than just a growling stomach.

The Holy Spirit asks us are you more hungry for Jesus than for a fish sandwich? And we say, “YES! Spirit, feed us!” And it will be as we ask.

    Believe it! Experience it!
    Grace and PEACE,
    Gary
