the Iconoclastic 'modern jesus'
Is the open-mindedness of the 'modern jesus' in sharp contrast to the Holy Scriptures?
In the modern christian culture in America, 'Jesus' has become a bottom line for profits and a poster child for the acceptance of all without Lordship, true repentance or confession.
Is this modern jesus vanquishing the doctrine of the Biblical Jesus in the Body of Christ, attempting to deleteriously anihilate the very nature of Christ, spoken of in the Scriptures?
By discombobulating the very foundations of Faith in Christ, we have created a drive-through window of 'i love jesus - get your trinket salvation now, at low prices!'

Just a thought.

ps: before sending me your hate-mail let me just say that the Body of Christ, The Church is alive and well and doing the will of the Father, according to Scripture. There are a large number of fellowships and pastors that are truely God-fearing men. However, in my experience is it sadly not the majority.
Below lies a progressivly destinct, charming display of neo-classical 'modern jesus':

The same can be said for the iconography of Jesus thru the ages.
No one actually recorded His face on canvas for posterity, but many have portrayed Him according to their impression of Him, slowly eroding the Jesus of the Gospels, each generation filtering the historical Jesus thru the moral standards of what is considered 'nice', until what we have left is a Jesus so insipid and powerless we as a society start to wonder what exactly there is to have faith IN.
It's no surprise to me that the lampoons of 'The Buddy Jesus' and 'The Piss Christ' in secular art have emerged to further denigrate the Risen Lord, it's sad to say this, but it was the Church that paved the way for it.
What our society really needs to see is the Jesus that drew a whip in the temple and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers. We need to see the Jesus that was willing and able to call a religious man a snake. This Jesus whom we worship is not politically correct, it's time we face that, pick up that cross again, and follow in His footsteps.

Dboone,
Over the ages, the Church has been persecuted, and still is in other countries than America; it is merely belittled here in America. In the history of the Church we have never seen more church literature, buildings, denominations and sects than we do now. The Church has always thrived under persecution but today, in America, I believe what we see is a fattening of the church in an attempt to corrupt it; to express this point I'm using the terms of 'the visible church', and the 'invisible Church'.
The visible church seemingly does the will of the Father but secretly it hates Christ.
The invisible Church, which I believe really is The Body of Christ, the Church, is scattered abroad and would be hard to locate, made of up true believers. Although the invisible church perhaps struggles with sin, it seeks the Father's will in fear and trembling.
I believe This distinction is made directly from the Scriptures, that Jesus said "if you love me, obey my commandments", and there is a place where the real Church operates in obedience, having love for it's brethren in Biblical fellowship as an outward sign and expression of love for Christ. The invisble Church is interested in the eternal, spiritual welfare of the lost.
The visible church is interested merely in the procreation of itself and is not interested in the eternal welfare of the lost, seeking when they do witness to only add numbers and revenue to their own fellowship. They hate the brethren and Biblical fellowship.
We can even see this at work in these forums here; there are those who are not really interested in examining themselves with the Scriptures, as the ultimate testing tool, but rather would be the ones to be in the category of creating doctrine. These are spots on your love feasts, waves of the sea foaming out their own shame.
To answer your statement, I do believe The Church is doing the will of the Father, but it is the false church which seemingly represents Christ to the world today, and at times, in the ultimate devilishness, can even be sound in most of it's doctrine.
To make a point on what you said about seeing the Jesus of the whip, etc.; Through the Spirit's work I believe we see Him, through the Brethren, who in following Christ are confronting these things which oppose Christ and His Body.
On a follow up to another thread, which is related, it is my fervent hope that some of these men who spend a lot of time arguing with me on whether or not you should go to seminiary would take their knowledge and use it to add to the Kingdom, to edify the Body of Christ and tear down the strongholds which have built themselves against The Church. By the Spirit, using their well sharpened swords, these men could pull a few out from the snare of the enemy.
This is the only reason why I'd want to post here to begin with, or anywhere else for that matter, that I might encourage some to use their giftings and talents for the Lord's work.

Good points all around. I agree with your heart's prayer, that is mine too, that we might hear the words "good and faithful servant".
