Some Jack Chick fun for the holidays
Hey Jorge and Friends,
Whadda ya think of this Jack Chick poster? Do you think this is a pretty accurate representation of the modern scientific consensus of human evolution?
Are there any Christians out there who are willing to disown this fine example of Christ's love?

So, just how is it you got into the catalog? I tried and was denied access. Don't tell me you have to be a member of the J. C. (Jack Chick) (hey, I just noticed the "J. C." coincidence (?) in the name) fundi cult to look at all the goodies.

The most interesting think about Chick stuff is that it's impossible to parody, because there is no discernable difference between it and a good parody of it.

I beg to differ. Chick's stuff is always the better parody.

Re: Some Jack Chick fun for the holidays
Many years ago I watched as all kinds of people (including, regrettably, Christians) attacked a man, then unknown to me, named Kent Hovind and so I took it upon myself to study the matter in-depth. I found Kent to be a fine, respectable Christian man and the attacks on him were mostly a result of ignorance. It's a universal law that people will be people and idiots will be idiots.

It's also spiritually dangerous in that at the very least it causes people to doubt the veracity of God's Word.
Jack is simply trying to get that message across.
Now, I personally would not go about promoting this sentiment as Jack does because of the huge space that it allows for misinterpretation. It's easy to see why even many Christians would want to distance themselves from this. However ...
... however, I look towards the man's heart - his ultimate motive - and I don't see any evil here. Jack's probably having a ball coming up with these depictions of evolutionary thinking. He creates wild caricatures because that's how he sees evolution - as a wild caricature. In this sense Jack is merely calling it as he sees it.
I wouldn't be too critical, rogero - hyperbole and satire are forms of artistic expression, you know.
Of course, I'm expecting for this post to go ... ZOOM! ... about a light year over your head.

No, your point didn't ... ZOOM! ... about a light year over my head. Alas, it was all too clear, and should be clear to anyone who is not totally indoctrinated into the fideistic Fundy school of thought -- that you are every bit as riduculous a caricature of one-dimensional reasoning as ol' Jack.

In one of Chicks latest masterpieces, he goes right out and says 'If you believe in Evolution, you will go to hell!' Of course, Chick threatens most people with Hell in most of his work, including Catholics for some reason. He really has a thing about the Catholics.

Jack Chick - ignorant Christian poster boy...
That’s quite a profound thought Jorge…something I would expect from the great philosopher Yogi Berra…

I’m never sure what a frightened Christian fundy means by (macro)evolution? Does this mean he accepts (micro)evolution? Does this mean he has surrendered to the most obvious fact and foundation of all the life sciences? Namely that there is a change in the gene pool of a population over time? Perhaps the ignorant Mr. Jorge, like Mr. Chick and other frightened fundies, believe that “(macro)evolution” is the process by which a monkey wakes up one morning and decides he wants to be a homo sapien, or perhaps a monkey wakes up and gives birth to a homo sapien? If so, he is right, this is stupid, and the people like he, and Chick, are simply tilting at the windmills of their hilarious ignorance of biology and paleontology.I've done no such in-depth study on Jack Chick but I do know that Jack is merely expressing the following sentiment : (macro)evolution theory is the stupidest, most brain-dead concept that there is.
The fact is that there is no difference between “micro” and “macro” evolution except the length of time, and the isolation of population groups adapting in different local biospheres. It’s a well known fact that genes between species usually diverge, while genes within species usually combine. The same processes that cause within-species evolution are responsible for above-species evolution.
The idea that the origin of different species (H. Erectus, H. Neandertalis, H. Sapiens and now H. floresiensis), requires something special is based on the misunderstanding of the way in which new species arise. The common ancestor that is the origin of H. Sapiens and H. Floresiensis, differed very little from their common hominid ancestral species, and each other. But once they were reproductively isolated from each other, (in the case of H. Floresiensis on a small Indonesian island for thousands of years), they evolved more and more differences that they shared but the other homind lineages didn't.
Its also intellectually ignorant to believe a specific collection of human literature written over hundreds of years by countless unknown, ignorant, superstitious men is the “word of god(s)”. But that pretty much sums up your intellectual integrity and the obsessive compulsive idolatry you have for that collection of ancient literature. It's also spiritually dangerous in that at the very least it causes people to doubt the veracity of God's Word.
Jack is simply the poster child for making Christians look hilariously ignorant, hateful and intolerant. Many think he may really be an atheist parody of fundamentalist Christian dogma, he does it so well.Jack is simply trying to get that message across.
No…you would go about saying pithy things like:Now, I personally would not go about promoting this sentiment as Jack does because of the huge space that it allows for misinterpretation.
“(macro)evolution theory is the stupidest, most brain-dead concept that there is.”
What a shame you can’t draw grotesque cartoon caricatures, your tripe is much less entertaining…
Only intelligent, educated ones…do you fit either category? It's easy to see why even many Christians would want to distance themselves from this. However ...
…tee hee…I find this lame insult ironic coming from a YEC…Isn’t the speed of light a fact that helps us verify the 14+ billion year age of our universe, and the remoteness of distant galaxies, also one of the “stupidest, most brain-dead concept that there is”?Of course, I'm expecting for this post to go ... ZOOM! ... about a light year over your head.

"Frightened Christian fundy"? What planet have you been living on for the last, say, 50 years?I’m never sure what a frightened Christian fundy means by (macro)evolution?
What is commonly referred to as microevolution is fact, there's no denying this. Macro, OTOH, is pure, gross fantasy founded on Naturalism - a religious (certainly not scientific) view of the universe.Does this mean he accepts (micro)evolution?
Remember that mantra I spoke about in previous posts, there it is again, folks, this time courtesy of LGM : "those that don't accept (macro)evolution is because they are ignorant and/or don't understand it."Does this mean he has surrendered to the most obvious fact and foundation of all the life sciences? Yup, if you really knew (like LGM) then you'd accept it; otherwise, you're just lost.

Earth. You should take off you fundy, literalist blinkers and start exploring it...its wonderful..."Frightened Christian fundy"? What planet have you been living on for the last, say, 50 years?
Biologists and paleontologists don't usually refer to micro or macro evolution. Its "commonly" only distinguished by ignorant fundys like yourself, as a last ditch effort to try and draw some hilarious magic line, to stop genetic change in populations over time from gradual speciation. I guess you think the ignorant authors of the Genesis myths don’t allow that for some reason…What is commonly referred to as microevolution is fact, there's no denying this.
Why don't you explain to us what magic force of YHWH prevents accumulated "micro" genetic change over time from speciation in separated population groups occupying different environments? Why don’t you explain Flores man? You can't... Why do you even bother discussing evolution? No one takes anything you have to say seriously. You're Jack Chick without the crayons. Why aren't you out searching for Noah's ark? Or are you just here to amuse us?
You're not "lost". "Lost" is some theist babble term when god-struck fundys need a nice word for people who haven't joined their cult. Over time it often turns in to “heretic”, or in your amusing case - “naturalist”.Remember that mantra I spoke about in previous posts, there it is again, folks, this time courtesy of LGM : "those that don't accept (macro)evolution is because they are ignorant and/or don't understand it."
Yup, if you really knew (like LGM) then you'd accept it; otherwise, you're just lost.
You're not lost. You're an obsessive compulsive literary idolatrist trying hilariously to fit the world science is discovering into your ancient myth...its truly amusing entertainment… But you’re not “lost”, I’m sure you know right where you are.
LGM
…not to worry…your beliefs will soon be extinct, and if you have offspring, your literary idolatry defect, will not be passed genetically to future generations…Last edited by LGM; November 28th 2004 at 03:06 PM.
