Why? One should be loyal to one's spouse and not "date" anyone else! Or anything that should only be done with one's spouse. Cheating is wrong! It hurts other people.

You know that and I know that but watch the world around you. Do you think they think sex should be reserved for marriage and only between married people?

JP, I just read that set of links you posted in Civics 101. I knew nothing about Scott before but it seems to me like he's the Republican version of Frank Underwood from House of Cards. There's one episode in that show where Frank goes back to his home town and deals with church people. One of the things he says as an aside after manipulating and lying to the entire congregation is that with these kinds of people you need to show a little humility and then they'll follow you wherever you want them to go (I don't remember the exact wording but it was something like that).
"Concentrate on what you have to do. Fix your eyes on it. Remind yourself that your task is to be a good human being; remind yourself what nature demands of people. Then do it, without hesitation, and speak the truth as you see it. But with kindness. With humility. Without hypocrisy."
        -Marcus Aurelius

I'll take your word for it since I have no idea what House of Cards is.

JPH. If you're wanting to enter into economic theory, I highly recommend Henry Hazlitt's book "Economics in One Lesson."

Master the lesson and you know more about economics than 99% of the people you meet.

So, pastel ponies have a better concept of loyalty! Great, maybe people should watch more kid's shows; they may learn something.

Aren't some folks out there a bit too obsessed in a decent kid's show? What's really bad is doing stuff I dare not mention with the characters...
You talking about the My Little Pony reference?

Not you. I've just heard that some people miss the point about the show. Bad stuff happens when you miss the point.

Here's a clip of asides that Frank does to the camera. It gives pretty good insight into his character (especially the quote at 1:10):

Is it okay that I want evil people(e.g. human traffickers, people who do horrible deeds to children, evil opressors) to get what is coming to them. Or repent and make restitution to their victims, that would work too. If they get shamed for eternity, I wouldn't be sad at all!

                              JP,

This sounds like it will end up being a great project. I have been actually been reading and thinking about this area more in the last year or two. I have some recommended reading, authors, and concepts I like to point people to.

This first is Doug Wilson (dougwils.com). I think you know of him because you recommend his book, The Serrated Edge. He's also a preterist, so this affects how he speaks about social and political issues (primarily at his blog). He also has written these two recent posts about the issue of certain ministers' response to the increasing legalization of same-sex marriage.

                              http://dougwils.com/s7-engaging-the-...ristendom.html

For any analysis and discussion of our modern economic situation, I recommend Vox Day's The Return of the Great Depression.

Also, for economic ideology, distributism is worth a look (as opposed to socialism or capitalism). G.K. Chesterton is probably the best known Christian proponent of it. I've only recently came across it, and it definitely has me interested in checking it out in more depth. Some links for it would be

                              Front Porch Republic

                              The Distributist Review

Beyond Capitalism & Socialism: A New Statement of an Old Ideal

Distributism (Wikipedia article I know, but the first part gives one a pretty good flavor for what distributism is about)

And I now think any discussion about political objectives for individuals and communities needs to reckon with the evidence that the USA is now functionally an oligarchy. I was already thinking this based on arguments I encountered on Doug Wilson's blog, Vox Day's blog, and others before this study linked below came out.
