I know that book well, and used to use it regularly. You do know that now it's online, right?

Ah! I didn't know you participated. (I haven't in several years due to health, but once finances and living situation is straightened out, I plan to start again, if possible.)

Since 1983. And I hadn't realized you did, either.

Hope things improve for you soon!

Re: My Big Bad Sewing thread

Well I finally, after about ten or so muslins, got the bodice to fit. The last few muslins were to get rid of the Rhodesian Ridgeback aka the always favorite "shark fin" that had formed along the upper bust up to the neckline on the princess seam. Totally not attractive.

The skirt muslin was a breeze, obviously since it is so flowy. Next I have to practice installing an invisible zipper on it. Never installed one before. And to decide on a lining. Despite knowing cotton batiste would be best, I am going to go poke around Jo-ann's today since I have a good coupon, and if I can find some other thin lining fabric, I will get it there. Otherwise, I found black cotton batiste on Amazon for a decent price and will order that today.

For muslin fabric I would, but not for the garment which I am putting a lot of time into. I am trying to work towards having a good majority of my wardrobe to be made by me (years away from that goal) so trying to make things as quality as I can within my limited means... so maybe the $4 bin.

Actually, I always look through the $1 bin. A lot is less than great - but occasionally you find stuff that's really good but they are trying to get rid of the last few yards. It's worth a glance on your way to the $4 bin...

If you want an idea of the ridiculous bodice changes I had to make here is a superimposed image of the original side princess seam with the modified one. The original seam line is in blue.

Seriously. There was no room at all for boobs in that original piece. Bah that it is supposed to be B-cup standard. Perhaps B pounded flat for a mammogram.

And this would be a good example of 'best left unsaid'.
