Re: My Big Bad Sewing thread
I totally love dresses and skirts. Back when I had a stint at waitressing the uniforms were all slacks, but they had skirts that could be special ordered (IIRC they had them for women who had religious objections or something to slacks, which I did not) but I requested a skirt. All of my professional attire, with the exception of perhaps five pants suit are all dresses or skirts. I just bought five new dresses on ebay.

Why do you think women today don't wear dresses? Serious question.

They aren't always comfortable - especially if you need a girdle but even with just hose. Not to mention the expense 'cause hose aren't exactly resilient
. To me they are mostly a hassle - and the places I have to go make them extremely impractical. Sneakers don't go with dresses and even flats can be dangerous when climbing questionable porches and stairs.

Ok.
Well, all I know is put a girl in a dress, and it doesn't matter who she is, she automatically turns HOT.

I don't wear hose. I don't see how they would be any worse than pants with a girdle.
I wear sneakers with skirts, and flats with most dresses. There are a lot of shoes that are just fine with climbing stairs that aren't sneakers. Flat Mary Janes come to mind. I have multiple pairs of Mary Janes. I also wear saddle shoes a lot.Not to mention the expense 'cause hose aren't exactly resilient

They stretch during the day - aren't all that easy to pull back up to begin with but then once stretched they don't go back where they are supposed to. By the end of the day they're miserable. Frankly, if I needed a girdle for pants I'd just buy larger pants. I only use foundation garments when I have to - and I mean absolutely have to.
Speaking of which I need to go buy one...
I can't do bare legs - that drives me insane. At events I wear shorts or pants (depending on weather) which works fine but only under the long 'skirts' of costumes - modern dresses aren't bulky enough.
Sneakers just look bad with skirts/dresses to me. I've done it when my feet were in bad shape but I hate it. And flats are a problem because of the places I have to go - my patients aren't usually city dwellers and home improvement is sometimes a foreign concept.
Last time I wore a skirt to work I ended up scooting around on my backside to get up on a porch three feet high - with no stairs (these places are never anywhere near a neighbor that I can leave the note with
). I made it and so did the skirt but it was a lot more complicated than pants would have been.
Basically, if you want to see me in a dress catch me at church or at an event.

Are you still doing your sewing in classes, or are you doing it on your own now? Every time I read about one of your projects, I get the urge to find my machine and start making something. I used to love to sew, but haven't for years.

Re: My Big Bad Sewing thread

I messed up the same piece two times!!!! At least now though I don't feel bad about buying extra fabric.
The first time, I put the wrong edge on the fold when cutting - Burda patterns are a bit different from what I am used to.
The second time, the instructions said to baste the pleat folds. Well this pattern tends to tell you to baste everything, and I don't baste everything - waste of time for some things - so I did a long machine baste (which isn't really a baste), and
I didn't realize that these stitches "show" and would have to come out at the end, and since the fabric is satin, the stitches once removed will really show... so I have to start over again.
Oh well lesson learned.Nochyu mokraya ptitsa nikogda ne letaet.
