I am now sewing a very simply pair of shorts for hubby - I have made several for him before and he likes them for lounging around the house.

      Re: Okay Next Project

Hey! That is the same giraffe skin fabric that my son-in-law and I got for my daughter for her birthday in August! She made some pillows and some curtain tiebacks for their living room, which has an African theme!

It is nice fabric, Dee Dee, not too plush.

Did you figure out which needle to use on it? Does your sewing machine give ideas of which needles to use for which fabrics? I think my daughter likely used whatever needle was already in the machine, since she is a new sewer, and wouldn't even think about having to use different needles for different fabrics.

And her machine is my really old one that I gave her.

Okay - I made the poncho it is awesome, but now I have missplaced where I set it down and cannot take a picture. My sewing class is starting back up, and here is what I will be doing - the fabric is actually a cuordoroy

Okay I found the poncho I just made, here it is. I also yesterday found some green home decor fabric to make curtains for the birds' room. I have an idea to line it with some yellow fabric that I will now be on the lookout for. The problem is that I need 6 to 8 yards, and often there isn't that much on the bolt.

I look larger in that dress than others, not only because of the dots, but because it is white which is fattening. In a pic I look like a moose, thus no pic will be posted of me IN the dress. In person though it is quite elegant. I have gotten numerous compliments.

The dress looks very nice. So does the poncho - you've got that 'sewing bee' in your bonnet, haven't you?

My fabric box is busting at the seems - guess it's time to buy a new machine and get started.

      Where do you take classes?

We have a tech school that offers classes - I just keep signing up for cabinetmaking when I get to go... I may try sewing this time.

Oh, and many many moons ago when I sewed more regularly (if not well), I used those plastic (grumble grumble) bobbins to store thread when a spool would get low enough - they're smaller and it gives me more room for new thread. (that I don't need because my poor sewing box is about to explode as it is! But what the hey, it's fun!) The silly things actually work better as spools, or did on my old machine.

Re: My Big Bad Sewing thread

Here is my latest. The fabric is so busy it is hard to see the detail. There are pleats and faux pockets, side zipper. It looks pretty short, but actually it rides very low on the hips so it is not that short (yet not so low-riding that it would be more suitable for a plumber). The fabric is a soft courderoy. I am making a top out of the same material, and looking to wear it with navy tights and maybe pink boots.
