Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

No seer, as far as you are concerned I consider the ridiculous unreliable source with your combative rejection of science and an extreme religious agenda.

Really? That is your come back?

Those who cling to ancient paradigms in black and white mythical worlds of 'Truth' in believe or die debating, cannot remotely be expected to understand the 'learning' intellectual exercise of contrary debating to explore alternative beliefs and ideas. Anyone who has taken serious college level courses in the Philosophy of Debating would understand.

As someone who doesn't cling to ancient paradigms in black and white mythical worlds of 'Truth,' I'll note that-- generally-- when I'm engaging in the "intellectual exercise of contrary debating" (more commonly known as "playing Devil's Advocate") I will be fairly up-front about that fact.

Indeed, I usually begin such exercises with a clause like, "If I were to play Devil's Advocate, here..." or "Let's examine the evidence for proposition X." I would certainly not pretend that all evidence contrary to the belief which I am assuming for the exercise is simply nonexistent. In my experience, that sort of intellectual dishonesty invalidates any benefit which might be gained from the "intellectual exercise of contrary debate."

But, hey, to each his own.
"[Mathematics] is the revealer of every genuine truth, for it knows every hidden secret, and bears the key to every subtlety of letters; whoever, then, has the effrontery to pursue physics while neglecting mathematics should know from the start he will never make his entry through the portals of wisdom."

              Roll out the 'three stooges'!

I doubt reputable College level courses in debate encourage deliberate dishonesty. You presented your position as being thoroughly convinced that the Psalms were Canaanite; you belittled those who disagreed, claimed that they were ignoring the evidence and so on.

Now you're back-tracking and pretending that you were just being 'a sophisticated college level intellectual explorer'.

We see what you are, Shunya. It's not the front you are trying to present. Your pride and your despising of others beliefs has tripped you up. You'd actually learn a lot more if you were more humble and more open-minded.

In other words play devil's advocate, no need to act like it's more than that. But were you at any point making that clear? No one thinks you did, and so it appears that you are back pedaling and are trying to make an excuse and no one is accepting a polite fiction.
Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith? -Galatians 3:5

All the while adding Shuny's trademark ad hominem disparagement of others as supposedly unable to understand his perspective.

I don't cling to ... whatever. I'm a new age liberal, baby. All I see here is a self confessed liar. Once you confess to lying any post you make from then on is suspect. Not that they weren't already.

You're embarrassing, Shunya. You're doing just what you often accuse others of doing: not offering a substantive response; and your pals the 'Three Stooges', Bob, Duck and Weave.

You should show more respect for others, and exercise more honesty in your posts.
