God Said!
35tn The language describing the cosmos, which reflects a prescientific view of the world, must be interpreted as phenomenal, describing what appears to be the case. The sun and the moon are not in the sky (below the clouds), but from the viewpoint of a person standing on the earth, they appear that way. Even today we use similar phenomenological expressions, such as “the sun is rising” or “the stars in the sky.” from NET Bible notes on Bible.org
If this is true, then God did not say it or the expanse in Gen.ch 1 is not our "sky". Correct?
Everyone lives by Faith in the future. However, only by the intellectual honesty from being ontologically revived, by the Holy Bible's God giving the grace of Eph 2:8,9, to the elect, will the Faith we base our lives on, be true. By which Faith we avoid the ontological ignorance of Truth, like in others ideas I have blogged. Then we will know literarily & literally our own revival & that much time, effort, and emotion is invested in being dishonestly ignorant, because that person's Cognitive Dissonance makes the need of the illusion of being correct too deep to change. We see all our needs ontologically satisfied by God working Phil 4:13&19 in us & reject science of 1tim 6:20 (KJV) & a factious man after a first and second warning, as in titus 3:9-11 (RSV)& help others for FREE here See my sig. explained here

Re: God Said!
I don't think the Sun, moon and stars ever appeared to be below the clouds to me, and I'm certainly no expert here, but we have in verse 1 God creating the heavens (plural). In verses 6-8 God seperating the waters and calling the waters above the earth "heaven" (singular). And finally in verses 14-18 He makes the Sun moon and stars in the heavens (again plural and stated twice)

There aren't a whole lot of words in Biblical Hebrew so perhaps the plural "Heavens" implies that there is multiple heaven/sky/space above our atmosphere which, of course, we know to be true.
Hope I answered your question

MarkWe are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between good and evil, death and life, the 'culture of death' and the 'culture of life'. We find ourselves not only 'faced with' but necessarily 'in the midst of' this conflict: we are all involved and we all share in it, with the inescapable responsibility of choosing to be unconditionally pro-life. --John Paul II
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live --Deuteronomy 30:19
Go on... I dare ya. -- Xavier

Re: God Said!
I believe that the description is made so the ancient man could understand it. So taken from his viewpoint Sun and Moon is really in our sky.

My real question was if the note I posted was showing a liberal bias against God's authorship of the Bible or was Cyrus of Persia correct in saying "the description is made so the ancient man could understand it."

No answer from anyone? Why is that? Is it so obvious that it is not worth the time? Or is it ambarassing how liberal is the NET bible?
