      How binding is sin?

On a scale of 1 to 10, how binding is sin? 1 being "Not very" and 10 being "Impossible to break the hold of sin." Please explain your answer.

      Thanks,
      Steve

      Re: How binding is sin?

well, depends on the sin. for soem things I'd have to say a big 10, because it seems impossible to get rid of, no matte rhow hard I try, and no matter what steps I take to get rid of it.

Other sins, I'd have to say 1, because they were fairly easy to get rid of. Every aspect was just simple. Like drinking, i quit that pretty easy, I was just like..yea, nuff of that, and never touched it again.

So for me, it is hard to say, all sin is 10, or all sin is 1. Well actually, if you bundle them all up into one definition, I'd have to say 10. Because, though some are easy and some seem impossible to get rid of, in this stage of life, one will never break free of all sin.

This is, ofcourse, if I understand what you mean by binding.

      100% minus ONE.

      Romans 11:32

What God has bound men to, men cannot undo.

1 John 1:8 remains regardless of the visible actions of sin.

There is a difference between "having sin" and "having sinned."

The first portion is UNAVOIDABLE. The second portion is an outcome of the unavoidable portion.

There is also a kicker that most of you will not accept:

1 John 3:8 "sin is of the devil."

      What's in your wallet?

      lol

      enjoy!

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. And we have seen and do testify that:

The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world

      and

HE HAS NOT, DOES NOT AND WILL NOT FAIL,

      Love never fails.

It depends on what you mean by 'binding' and 'sin'.

If you are asking about how difficult it would be for a person to overcome their disposition to commit acts of sin with perfect consistancy?
9 - While I believe we are physically and mentally capable of not sinning, I don't know of any mere human being that has abstained from sinning for any considerable amount of time.

If you are asking how difficult it would be to be in right standing before God?
9.999 - This would require that Jesus death on the cross eliminated the inherited sin of Adam (ie. it would be true that we are only punished for our own sin) and that someone live a perfectly sinless life.

      On the other hand,

3 - Jesus has already overcome sin for us. All we need do now is accept the gift of salvation and submit to God. Any living human can do this by an act of will. I put 3 in stead of 1 because we have to oppose our fallen nature by seeking after God.

      Neat question.

My screen name is a technique from an ancient form of a Russian martial art called Sambo that means 'way of the king' in English. This particular technique involves striking any three vital points (joints, nerves, or arteries) in the span of little more that 1 second. Later, I realized that it offended some Christians and shortened it to TK. However, this site requires a longer screen name. I believe that God is triune.

It all depends. It is addictive, the first time you do something wrong it will not have an intense hold over you, but if you repeat the act then its hold over you (how much it binds you) will grow, on and on.

Each time you say yes to sin it gets easier to say yes the next time and each time you say no it gets easier to say no the next time.

So the grip of sin sits on a sliding scale, or such is my experience.

Although if you are talking about the unbelievers, then it sits at a 10, because they often do not recognise the wrong they are doing as wrong. Which is the final outcome of saying yes to sin over and over.

According to Romans 7, the answer to your question is 11. There is NO possibility for man to overcome sin. We are all born under the curse, therefore we are all under the Law of Sin.

When the old man (self or ego) dies, and the new creature is born we live the life of Christ.

"Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me." Romans 7:17
There's more where that came from.
