  • ISIS Document: "Questions and Answers on Taking Captives and Slaves"

    Source: http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/12/world/meast/isis-justification-female-slaves/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Can you take non-Muslim women and children captive? Yes, says ISIS.

Can you have sex with them, even prepubescent girls? Yes, according to the Islamist extremist group.

Can you sell them or give them as gifts to others? The answer is yes, once again.

People in Mosul -- the Iraqi city now under control of the group calling itself the Islamic State -- got these and other messages loud and clear after sunset prayers Friday, when armed men handed out a color-printed pamphlet "Questions and Answers on Taking Captives and Slaves," three residents told CNN.

Iraqi forces are making plans for a push into Mosul, Iraq's second city that was captured by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant fighters six month ago, Iraq's Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari told Al Jazeera. ...

Zebari, who is from Mosul, said he did not agree with predictions by US officials that the fight against ISIL could take years.

what would be the criteria for "civilized conduct" during war?---lets say,----how should captured soldiers and non-combatants be treated?

          Non-combatants?

We are not talking about conventional warfare where, for example, the Americans wore American uniforms and the Germans wore German uniforms. We're talking about warfare where our enemy can simply shoot at us or try to blow us up, then blend into the citizenry as if nothing happened.

One of the biggest problems is telling combatants from non-combatants.

So, in a hypothetical scenario, where some bank robbers took hostages, and when they were surrounded by law enforcement, they had everyone wear masks and blended in---would you say the right/moral/civilized thing would be to blow up the hostages and the robbers because no one can tell the difference and the safety of the law enforcement officers was a higher priority than the criminals and the citizens.....
