Uncle drowned in Pacific Ocean
Hi all,
Earlier this week, my uncle Herb drowned while crabbing off the Oregon Coast. My extended family is quite upset. Pls. find the link to an article about the accident:

This comes as quite a shock for the relatives and friends--please pray for their suffering to be comforted.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. This might be a male thing -- I don't by any means want to seem trite -- but I would take some solace from the fact that it happened while they were adventuring together as friends. It makes it more poignant, to be sure, yet it also eases some of the bitterness of the loss.

If I have a mystical experience, an experience that's so overwhelming that I know now that there's a God, the cognitive fallout from that is irrelevant. The fact that that experience can be explained by psychologists in numerous ways is irrelevant to the fact that I now know.

Most certainly, Neil! Uncle Herb's siblings are also conscious of this sentiment--but they are still mourning the sudden and baffling death of their brother. They were all together several times a week for decades. It is an arresting experience despite the metaphysical circumstances.

My sister and I are very close; the passing of one of us would be a shattering blow to the other even though we are together infrequently. I can only imagine how much worse it must be to lose a sibling when one is in daily contact.
I understand there are really no words or ideas that can heal the sense of loss...
