Could it be you don't know as much as you think you know? https://deeperwaters.wordpress.com/2...-is-a-problem/

It really depends on what you want to know. If you're programmer, engineer you can make do with Google (aside from getting practical experience by actually building stuff) for just about anything that doesn't involve closed-source references. If you're a historian or an amateur philosopher, you'll never be able to do more than merely getting your feet wet in my humble opinion.

What, no reference to speedsurfer?
ETA: Also, your examples are not unique to Google. They're examples of sloppy reading, not sloppy source selection.Last edited by One Bad Pig; 12-17-2014, 01:16 PM.Veritas vos Liberabit<>< Learn Greek <>< Look here for an Orthodox Church in America<><Ancient Faith Radio

I recommend you do not try too hard and ...research as little as possible. Such weighty things give me a headache. - Shunyadragon, Baha'i apologist

In my current area of interest (biblical studies), I heartily agree. I did a group project in seminary where we were to find background of a given NT passage, and a Google search for that passage would reveal loads of non-scholarly research. In many cases, these are going to simply perpetuate false understandings of passages. I'm making this example up, but you might find blogs that claim that Jesus was referring to camels going through a literal "Needle Gate" (an urban legend). Mark Goodacre's NT Gateway is a much better place to start."I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill
