my Gentoo box just got moobarred. i don't know what happened, but there was a lib file just about every imporant system program needed that was missing. and i couldn't compile anything, especially the package that had the file the system needed.
no help in the mans nor through googling. so, i'm now reinstalling world. did i mention that takes a while?

Gentoo is a hack built to address the fundamental problems unix systems have with package management. Sounds like the bandaid broke and all the icky bits are on the floor.

quite likely.
really, until now though, everything worked well with only minor hiccups which were easy to address thanks to the mountain of documentation on the internet. (gasp. run-on sentences like that are the reason i don't talk much

I would have chrooted too... I don't know why it didn't work. Couldn't you emerge anything?

i can't now em, as it is in the middle of emerging a bunch of stuff.
actually i might of figured it out. I started noticing emerge fouling up after i added some new flags to my make.conf file. this time around i'm not using those flags, so we'll see if that was the culprit.
funny thing is, i'm a big advocate against just doing computer stuff based on what people on an internet forum say. and where do you think i got these flags? on the gentoo forums
